I've tried 2 sets of louder pipes, Triumph shorts and longs, and found them both to be too loud (I have pretty bad tinnitus from years of infantry, arty, and aviation). Even wearing ear plugs they were loud. The stockers have picked up a really nice sound over the last year, and they suit me, and many others, just fine.
But your taste may vary.
