Not me, but my father was... You didn't dare go near his "manspace" in the basement when W3PFV was "on the air"... I spent a lot of my youth erecting and stringing antennae in the yard...

My pops too! Can't even take his Jeep through most car-washes due to the antennas he's got attached...

Gotta admit, though I've never been able to master Mr. Morse's code, nor do I have any of this particular type of radio equipment, I have been accused of being a HAM many many times throughout my life.
(among many many other accusations, of course)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I did pass the test at 13, and got my licence at 14 (as that was the legal minimum age) but it lapsed many years ago. My dad still has his, just doesn't have the time to do much.

Wow.. I'm kind of amazed that there aren't more HAMs around here! Guess it's a dying hobby. I got into it back in the early 90's when I used it to talk to my buddies across the country and relatives out of country. I'll admit that the morse code stuff was rough, and since I took that test I haven't used it a bit and can barely remember any of it, so I'm not sure how useful it really was. Dwight, you will be happy to know that in 2006, the FCC dropped the morse code requirement from all licenses, so now it's just a written test And a big Howdy to you Dennis! Everything is going just fine and I'm hoping to see everyone at the GA rally this year! Cheers, Brad

I think the internet and mobile phones had alot to do with its decline. I dont think its a requirement to sit the morse test over here either, my licence was changed to a full recently from a B. Gina it should not be a problem to get your licence back, its free now (hard to believe in the UK).

Jeeps aren't meant to be washed...they're prettier muddy!!!
My granddad used to let me talk on his set - he was K0HRS. He said he was leaving his gear to me...but lo and behold when we showed up Ft Collins, step-grandmother had sold most of the stuff promised to my mom and I.
