Newbie here,
Help please, sorry if this question has been posted before but there is too many pages to go through, what it is my bonnie america 2003 after its second service has now developed an oil leak from the cylinder head, left hand side, rear, can this be cured by torquing the cylinder head, if so, does anybody know the torque settings or have I got to do a full top end strip down and if so has anybody ever done one, again if you have could you guide me through.
Cheers
Dave

Hoobar,
That seems a bit unusual as far as a leak on our bikes. Are you sure this isn't the valve cover? That has been a problem on some of our bikes. If it is the head I guess it doesn't hurt to try torquing first. If you have to go deeper buy the repair manual. As to proceedure, I don't have it handy but Dinqua has a link somewhere in the performance section posts of when he did the BB upgrade. I have torque values I can get you later once I get to my manual. I'll have it tomorrow for you.

Hi Jango
No its not the valve cover the oil is definately coming from the cylinder head gasket. You say have a look in the manual but unfortunately in England i cant get my hands on one it would be a great help if you could point me in the right direction to buy one of these.
Cheers
Dave

I noticed the same leak on mine a couple of days ago. Just a little film of engine oil between the black fins and the silver fins. Not going to worry about it just yet but I'll keep an eye on it.

Check the torque of the headbolts won't hurt but don't me tempted to over-torque them, remember the whole thing's alloy and strips fairly easilly if abused. If it's developped shortly after a service I'd be taking it back to them and bitching at them to fix it. Don't get your hands dirty on something that shouldn't be your problem - you paid for a service, demand service.

Hoobar, No I said I'd look in mine. No matter, stupid me was in a rush and forgot to look. BUT I have The almighty Dinqua's website and it has what you need. http://members.bluefrog.com/~pwhitbec/index.html
I can't help you locate a manual in England but I would expect your local dealer should be able to get you one. As others have said DO NOT over torque. I belw the head gasket due to a stripped thread. It was not a fun repair and now I think I have another one that is weak. I notice a leak at the bottom of my cylinder. Not bad enough to be that concerned but annoying any way. Good luck
Jango

Hi Jango Thanks for all your help, ordered a repair manual from the dealers £65.00 a bit pricey, never mind together with Dinqua's website (geat website plenty of info) I should be TRIUMPHant and hopefully manage to repair this problem,

Hiya Dave
Any come-back from the dealer? - you say it started after the service.
Did they 'tinker' with anything?

Have the shop remove the head and install a new gasket with a decent sealer. Mine had a similar problem early on and After spraying the gasket with a sealer I've had no more problems. They have had to do that on some of the TBAs and SMs.My guys replaced the base gasket at the same time. Not a problem in the 25,000 miles since.
