Oxford Chillout clothing? (choose Essentials/chillout clothing if you're curious)

Waterproof, windproof and breathable under layer for riding - sounds like great stuff.

Can only find it in the UK right now and am wondering if it's worth the price of shipping from there.

Thanks

Hiya Mark

Sorry, I haven't used the Oxford stuff but tried some 'Cold Killers' glove liners.
I know people who love 'em - I think they were a crock!
No warmer than a freebie pair given away with a mag last year!!

Cold Killers do all sorts of under garment (alleged) cold barriers!
Have a look at http://www.planet-knox.com

Thanks Adey, I saw that Cold Killers stuff too while I was searching. Didn't like the looks of it (too dense, thick) and it seems a LOT more expensive.

I think someone in the states makes something similar, go to a sporting goods store, I think it might be Nike or something along those lines.

Nope, not that I've been able to find Benny. Windproof, waterproof, breathable AND lightweight? It ain't happenin' here in the US of A.

I've got some Under Armour for cold that I wore last fall/winter/spring. It's great for running in the cold, but I need something that's windproof too, because that's the killer on the bike. None of the REI type stuff is windproof either and anything that is will not fit UNDER clothes - it's all outer wear.

Waterproof on top of everything else is a bonus.

If anyone knows of anything else that does the same thing, I'd be glad to hear it.

I must say I've never compared the prices.
I wouldn't say it was thick - probably that's the problem ... ?

Here's come info on the material, for those who are interested. Might be something we wanted imported!

ADVANCED RIDER WEAR
Two-wheel transport can provide some of the most hostile
environments the human body ever has to encounter. At 0 deg.C (32 F) , the wind chill factor at just 24mph is approximately –16 deg C (-3 F). Add to that the impact of rain at high speeds and it is easy to see how a rider's concentration could be adversely affected.

The all-new OXFORD ChillOut range of Essential Lifetime Clothing uses the very latest in sportswear technology to keep riders warm when it is cold and cool when it is warm, helping them to keep their concentration focused on the road rather than on their discomfort.

OXPROTEX© is an extraordinary material, both tough and gentle at the same time. Waterproof, Windproof and Breathable, it also has an insulating Thermacel fleece lining, which is gentle on the skin. OXPROTEX© is used on OXFORD ChillOut clothing wherever there is risk of wind chill or rain affecting the rider.

Dupont CoolMax© has legendary properties as a breathable material, capable of 'wicking' away more liquid from your skin than your body can produce. OXFORD ChillOut clothing uses CoolMax© wherever perspiration is most likely to be - for example, where material is pressed constantly against the skin, on the back of a shirt or around a mouth.

OXPROTEX© boasts the following characteristics:-
Breathable: Rapidly ‘wicks’ away perspiration.
Waterproof: Completely impermeable membrane keeps you dry & comfortable.
Windproof: Oxprotex© membrane keeps the chill out!
Thermacel Fleece: Warm, soft lining fleece for optimum warmth.

Sounds good to me! I'd still like to hear from some one who may have used it or know someone who does...

Under armor is what I was thinking of... Ok the windproof thing:) I have a fairly thin windstopper fleec pullover. Not windproof by any means, but under leathers, it does make a difference, and I can zip it up to my chin basically. Might try something along those lines. Seems to me that windPROOF and breathable is like the lost city of atlantis...

Yeah Benny, windproof is the sticking point. Also, I have a very nice Icon Motorhead leather jacket that I use for cooler weather and I want something that'll go under it without making me feel bulky. It would be nice to have the shirt, pants, gloves, etc. all the same.

It seems that they are using their windproof fabric in combination with coolmax (great stuff, I have lots of running gear with it). For example the coolmax is used on the back of a shirt where the wind isn't a factor, thereby allowing for breathabilty?

It looks a lot like Gore-tex. I haven't seen any gore-tex undergarments, but you might search. Gore-tex is a bit spendy though.

I sometimes toss my raingear on when I get cold... Everyone keeps saying that textile jackets are the way to go.. but I'm a fan of layers ya know? Don't want to have to pick which jacket, then hope the weather stays.. Rather just toss that extra layer in the bag.

Benny,
What leathers do you wear? Jacket and overpants? I can't seem to decide between fabric and leather. The FirstGear stuff I bought seems to be real bulky and heavy with all the armor built in, think I'll take it back. I'm leaning more toward layers like you mentioned.
Thanks,
Rich

Believe it or not...

For sailing, (both a windy and wet sport), I use a Henri Lloyd Top, and it works great for motorcycles, too! It is a very thin, washable, breathable and absolutley windproof. The only thing is not totally waterproof.

For $69, you can't beat it for Florida..

I bought mine at the following link
