Well I have @ 2 months left on my warranty and the Stealer sent me a card offering me a 2 year extended warranty. Now he says it covers everything the original covers with a $100 deductible. Now here's the kicker he wants $1,200 for it, seems like awful expensive Insurance for such a reliable bike. Any opinions?

About the only known problems are the coils, CDI, but not everybody has problems. I would tell him where to stick it, but that is just my opinion

These things aren't really warranties as much as they are insurance policies. You would have to have a $1300 warrantable condition to make it worthwhile. I've heard of people taking a car back for smoking and using a quart of oil a week; not covered because the car is still running. I never buy an extended warranty, but as soon as I talk you out of it your plastic oil pump gears will strip and your engine will sieze. Its like gambling in a casino. You can win, but the odds are with the house. After all, they are in business to make money.

+1 They really only pay the company and not the consumer. You'd be better off putting that $1300 (1200 + the deductible) into a interest bearing account of your choice.

For $1200. you could have a BB kit installed. Far better use of the money.

Each to their own. The parts alone cost more than $400.-600. and you have to bore the barrels, break down and put the engine back together and recheck/setup jets, etc. If I had been told for just $1500. extra I could have gotten a "deluxe" model with 50% more torque and 40% more hp, I would have jumped on it. Too bad the factory doesn't offer a more powerful version like outboard motors, etc.
Say what you want, I KNOW WHAT THE DIFFERENCE IS.
P.S. If you were referring to the cost of the warranty - never mind. Didn't mean to hi-jack a thread.

Warrenty I would say is not worth it. These bikes are dependable over all. I have never had a problem with either of our 04s. There are plenty of guys I see have over 50,000 miles and still no signs of failure, even a few over 100,000 now and still going. There have been a few CDI failures but seems that would still be cheaper to just replace it than pay for the warrenty.Same for occasional warped rotor.

I personally do not think its worth it. Perhaps a few hundred $$ but $1,200 is a bit steep.
Companies won't tell you this, but there are a lot of "secret/special warranties" that are available well after the original warranty wears out. Basically covers design deficiencies. You do have to prove that the item was subject to normal use and would "normally" last longer, or could be related to safety, you may be covered. I have had numerous occasions where an item was out of warranty and it was at least partially covered.
In those circumstances, I always ask to speak with the Service Manager and state my case. If not satisfied I write to the Company. Obviously not everything would be covered but you’d be surprised. Depends on how you argue your point.

NEVER . In all my life as a consumer I have NEVER been in a situation where an EW would have benefitted me - synopsis - all the money I saved by declining said EW will in theory repair or replace anything that may fail after the warranty period . The profits are HUGE on these things , that's why they cram them down yer throat at the checkout line . Never INSURE something you can AFFORD to replace , only INSURE something that you CANNOT AFFORD to replace ( house , car , life , ect . )

Talking about the $1200 waste on warranty, Ram guy, not the big bore kit. I love the idea of a big bore kit! These additional warranties are just money making ideas thought up by pencil necked, greedy corporate types. If your dealer is pushing this, I would suspect his interest in you. Again, $1200 dollars is NOT EVEN reasonable.

No way. Now, a 2-year service contract, maybe we could talk.

I would not have gone for it if someone had offered. Way too expensive in my opinion.

I got a 3 year extension on my original warranty (at time of purchase) from Interstate with a $50 deductible for $638. I don't usually recommend these things, but as you can see, there's some serious room for negotiation with extended warranties.
As long as Interstate stays solvent, I'm good 'til 12/27/2011.
I just re-read my card and there is a mileage cap - the warranty expires at 999,999 miles. I'd love to be able to push that envelope...
