Ok, I went through the archived posts and have a few questions. I also have the Triumph Manual and see that there is what appears to be a different way of mounting the mirrors using a one time crush collar and a special tool.

1) If you want to install Triumph OEM mirrors, do you need the special tool or can you make one?

2) If you want to use a mirror that suits Harleys, it appears you need "mirror adaptors" like the ones made by Brent. Is this correct? are there other less expensive adaptors? and what is experience in using the adaptors? (i.e. vibration, constant mirror adjustment)

3) Can you use mirrors for "metric cruisers"? and do they fit in the existing mount without any modifications? Are there any issues when using these "metric cruiser" mirrors? (i.e. vibration, constant mirror adjustment)

I have seen the V-max mirrors fit the existing stems but my stems are a bit damaged. I dropped the bike last week (to fast in a roundabout) an the mirror, mirror stem and rear tail light bullet sustained Chrome scrapping and are the only things I can't fix. (bent brake lever, bent footboard mount, some black paint) all fixed. Bottom of exhaust (well its on the bottom...)

Thanks and Happy Holidays to All

OEM needs no mod, Harley and Met cruisers need adapters like Brent sells, Crush spacers are bad idea-they get wedged down in the hole and cause corrosion. If you use harley mirrors, you will need a spacer or large washer on the back with an acorn type nut or you willhave 1 million threads exposed. hope this helps. Brents adapters are the nicest I have seen and are reasonably priced.

I never did understand the "adapters" aspect of it. Twice now I have changed out my mirrors to Harley style mirrors and all I did was select the bolt that came with the mirrors that was long enough and either wrapped electical tape or the last time I used shrink tube to make a "crush washer" so to speak and bolted them up. The tape or shrink tubing crushed into the mounting hole and made them rock solid... no movement or vibration at all. Hope that made sense.

Or you can use mikes mirror heads from the xs650 site which screw straight onto your oem stems they are really good

I've just done the same as Glazer with a brand new pair of Arlen Ness mirrors for my Speedmaster. They look awesome and theres no vibration so far..

Thought about wrapping in elec tape or something like that instead of buying adapters, but feared the vibration after a long trip on the bike. Good idea though! Inexpensive and no waiting on shipping.
