Might be a silly question- When I start up in the mornings when it's cold, (low 50's) I idle for about 5 min or so to warm up the motor before leaving. But while riding it'll take 5-6 miles to not hesitate, and get full throttle response.
Are our bikes just beasties when cold or do I need to look for problems?

Might have some problems, I ride to work till the temp dips below the mid 40's with no problems. Were to start would be the carbs, try setting the choke out a little and see if that helps. If it does, you will probably have to do some carb adjustments.

i pull the choke out when starting and push it in as it warms up, all in when riding.

i hope i don't need to adjust the carbs yet,-- barely over 2100 miles on the bike.

Mine (o5 Speedmaster) is the same way in the cold. Ten minutes to get her up and at 'em without burping isn't unusual for mine. I chalk it up to no heat riser on the carbs, and no benefit of electronic controlled choking that some EFI brains may allow.

After a very loooong month of motorcycle deprivation, I'm out for a cold weather ride today & tomorrow. It's 32 F here now, and up to a balmy 40 later. A pounding rain yesterday washed the road salts into the ditch.

Yee-hah!

You can turn the idle speed up a little bit to help. Don't forget to turn it back down after your beastie warms up.

it seems that every Triumph i have ever owned, was cold blooded. even on warm days, the first time its started i find myself haveing to use choke for about 5-10min. and when it gets real chilly, i leave it on and slowly push it in a little at a time untill she gets warmed up enough to run without it. if i am leaveing and wont have any stops right away, i just push it in once i get rolling.

ENJOY!!!!! NEWT!!!!!

I even go so far as to leave the choke pulled a tad as I go down the road a bit , when she feels warm , pop it in and go ! Richens it some , just use your head . Don't let her fast idle with choke out for long or your pipes will be blue , orange , yellow ,.......
