It doesn't take a lot of horsepower to maintain a high speed, especially with a decently designed car body. But what does take American horsepower is getting to that speed in a nano-second!
It used to be that most American cars could do that - and carry 5 of your buddies with you. Sadly, enviro-nuts have influenced our law makers and now we have emasculated cars just like everywhere else on the planet (except for a few models like the Chrysler 300C w/Hemi, Corvettes, and some others).
