For those familiar with the Peter Kay garlic bread sketch. was coming back from a vintage tractor meet with my uncle 69 years young, called in as we where passing triumph dealer, they where un-crating a rocket 3 outside . My uncle just stood there looking at it and in a garlic bread way just repeated " 2.3L,, 2300cc, 2300cc, twenty three hundred cc!!" Was so funny,

Correction there PapaDean, 2300cc is WAY bigger than you average European sedan.
Average size is around 1300-1800cc. With fuel prices the way they are, the average bloke on the street couldn't afford to run anything approaching 2300cc!! Our cars pay an annual Road Fund license with costs varying on a sliding scale - based on engine cc. Obviously smaller cars cost less with, I think, 1800cc being one cut-off point, hence the majority of cars below this.
A lot of cars in the 1800cc + bracket tend to be diesel.

Doesn't the Peter Kaye sketch go to have the dad finally try and enjoy the garlic bread? So, when's your uncles test ride??

Hiya Snapperman There are cars over her with smaller engines than our bikes!
Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of bigger cars - just the average bloke is so tight, he squeeks when he walks.
Though, what with the insurance costs, high fuel costs, Road Fund license, MOT, toll roads, extortionate repair costs & servicing, it's hardly a suprise really when they go for sub-1800cc cars ...

What makes me really sad is that the only traditional American cars available today are made in the UK by (with the exception of Bristol) German owned companies.

took my boys to the local aircraft museum yesterday
they have a fire truck that does 0-50 mph in 2.4 seconds and this thing is huge!
don't be fooled by small engines being slow by the way....in a small car a well tuned small engine can shift....
hmmm funny line to follow

Compare the 1800 - 2500 cc engine performance to MUCH larger engines (OK then, American cars!) and see that a 5 litre car's top end is no different!
My old 2.0l Alfa with 160,000+ miles could still crack 130 mph no sweat!

WELL DONE, OILLEAK!!
My point (in a round-about sorta way) exactly. You don't need cubes to get speed !!!
The Atom looks great fun ..
I've seen it tested on a couple of motoring programs over here and the testers always get it sideways round the track .. !
re-arrange these words : hot .. a .. sh!t .. off .. shovel ..
Oh for a lottery win, eh?

It doesn't take a lot of horsepower to maintain a high speed, especially with a decently designed car body. But what does take American horsepower is getting to that speed in a nano-second!
It used to be that most American cars could do that - and carry 5 of your buddies with you. Sadly, enviro-nuts have influenced our law makers and now we have emasculated cars just like everywhere else on the planet (except for a few models like the Chrysler 300C w/Hemi, Corvettes, and some others).
