I just bought a 2004 Speedmaster (YEAH) I have one problem though, the bike has the Triumph foot boards installed, that's cool, however, I can not get the toe of my boots (Combat) under the shifter to change gears! Is there someway to adjust it, fix it, other than a big hammer???
Thanks Wendell PS Don't worry, I wasn't serious about the hammer....

I have an easy fix for you... I'll swap you my pegs for your boards?
Seriously, I don't have a good suggestion, though your post does interest me because I normally ride with size 10.5 combat boots on and was thinking about boards, but never considered it may be a problem...
Can the height of the shifter be adjusted with the linkage rod?
BTW, welcome to the group -where you located?

Hi Roundy Yeah I wear a size 10, I want to ride in my combat boots, for safety reasons. The boards don't look like they are adjustable, I don't know if the shifter can be adjusted, it looks like it can be repositioned, but would require rigging once it was repositioned. I am not afraid of doing that, however, I was hoping for some guidence or other ideas. Thanks Wendell Dover AFB Delaware

It's and easy fix. disconnect the shift rod at the place where it enters the engine. just take out the little screw that holds tha piece on. Slide it off the shaft and move it so the shift lever is as high as you want it. put it back on the shaft and tighten the bolt. done.
if life gives you lemons keep them because hey, free lemons.

Cool, It looked that easy, but I wasn't sure. I won't have to rerig the shifter linkage? That was the only thing that worried me. I will try that tommorow. Thanks!! Wendell

The shift lever is adjustable. Loosen the keeper nuts on both ends of the shift rod and turn the rod. You will see the change immediately. Re-tighten the nuts after you have it adjusted to your desired position.
btw, this does nothing to change the shift arm on the tranny, it only changes the position of the shifter lever.

yea, what they all said, very easy to adjust the linkage. I have two different type boots, I change the adjustment n about 3 minutes if I need to wear the big bulky totally waterproof Herman Survivors.(a good 1"+ taller in the toe than my other boots) Easy enough to swap back for the Timberlands when I get home.

I have a 2005 America with Triumph floorboards. I just went and measured the distance from floorboard up to bottom of shifter. It's 3 1/4 inches. Like they say, it appears that the linkage is adjustable. I wear goretex workboots to ride in and my size 12's fit fine.

You don't really want to move the arm between the shifter linkage and the transmission - changing its angle can really stuff with gear changes. Adjust the height of the shifter by adjusting the ends of linkage itself.

What sandman said, but you should know that one end of the linkage bar - from memory I think its the gearbox end - has a left hand thread. So all you have to do is slacken the lock nut each end then turn the linkage bar to adjust. Once in the right place re-tighten the lock nuts. Couldn,t be easier. Well it could - if the linkage bar was a hex instead of round!

I found the very best solution is the heal/toe shifter from Triumph. I think they were meant to be together and the single lever for pegs. Also i have heard the small lever on the gear box should always be straight down, some problems in the past with popping out of gear if its to far foward. Anyway heal/toe is the way to fly good luck

There is a heel/toe shifter available from Triumph that works quite nicely with the footboards.

This thread is exactly what I needed to see! I haven't been able to wear my boots when I ride since I got this bike. Wasn't able to get my toe under the shifter unless I was wearing low-cut shoes.
I had asked my dealer if the shifter was adjustable a few months ago. The salesman and the service manager had told me that it wasn't adjustable; just recommended the heel toe shifter, which I don't want. After reading this thread, I made the adjustment in about three minutes and it's perfect now. Thanks for the information; this site is awesome.

I'm afraid they honestly didn't know that this was adjustable. Either way, I don't have a lot of faith in them.
