It's and easy fix. disconnect the shift rod at the place where it enters the engine. just take out the little screw that holds tha piece on. Slide it off the shaft and move it so the shift lever is as high as you want it. put it back on the shaft and tighten the bolt. done.
You don't really want to move the arm between the shifter linkage and the transmission - changing its angle can really stuff with gear changes. Adjust the height of the shifter by adjusting the ends of linkage itself.
