The shift lever is adjustable. Loosen the keeper nuts on both ends of the shift rod and turn the rod. You will see the change immediately. Re-tighten the nuts after you have it adjusted to your desired position.
btw, this does nothing to change the shift arm on the tranny, it only changes the position of the shifter lever.
