I accidentally rubbed my shoe on the left side pipe of my 2007 Bonneville America. See image here...

Any of you guys know how I can get the stain off of the pipe?

Blue Job works very well for a variety of stains, Easy Off oven cleaner is a great boot mung remover. You must take precautions with Easy Off to keep it only on the cool pipe and nowhere else on the bike but you don't have to wait for the Blue Job to come in the mail...

Just went through a similar event about two months ago with a plastic tarp. Much worse than your boot stain. Had about four inches worth of tarp completely melted to the pipes. Anyway, I got a bunch of great suggestions, including oven cleaner, acetone, and a razor blade. Tried em all, but in the end it was the razor blade that took it all off. Can't even tell it ever happened. It's like scraping paint off a mirror, but you have to be careful not to scratch the chrome. Might be that the oven cleaner loosened it up for the razor blade, i don't know, but the razor blade thing only took me about five minutes to get it all off. The oven cleaner and acetone were a lot of work and didn't work too good for me.

If it is rubber, plastic, or vinyl, acetone will melt the substance off without in any way hurting your pipes. You don't have to use any pressure, just continue to rub and soak the area with a towel with fresh acetone and it will come off. Let the acetone soak into the substance and it will slowly dissolve it.

Thanks! It is rubber that is melted onto the pipes from my sneaker. I'll give it a shot.

I've done OK with EZ Off oven cleaner, believe it or not.

Been there, done that. My experience--quickest way is a razor blade for the bulk of it, followed by chrome polish applied with 000 steel wool.

I've also been there and done that. I've melted shoe rubber on my pipes and melted blue tarp plastic on them. I try to stay away from anything abrasive if there's a way to get it off without wearing into that thin layer of chrome on the pipes. A razor blade is ok if you're staying ABOVE the chrome. I got both of the above problems off with acetone and polished up with Semichrome.

I just cleaned the underside of my stock pipes that had tar and chain oil baked on them with Simple Green mixed 50/50 with water. Cleans the brake dust off the wheels too.

Simple green is great stuff. Just FYI it will take wax off paint... Not a big deal if you are just doing pipes, but just keep it in mind.

Be careful with Simple Green. It can corrode metal over time and it is not good for painted surfaces. Getting a stain off your pipes is probably ok. It also is a degreaser, just remember it will eventually harm even stainless steel.

I used "Blue Job." It worked but it takes a while. Used a shop towel and just scrubbed till it came off.
