If it is rubber, plastic, or vinyl, acetone will melt the substance off without in any way hurting your pipes. You don't have to use any pressure, just continue to rub and soak the area with a towel with fresh acetone and it will come off. Let the acetone soak into the substance and it will slowly dissolve it.
