I have just, today, become aquainted with the Bonny American. I thought the Bonny was what I wanted (after seeing one today), but after a test ride I could't deal with the rearset pegs and shifter location. The dealer said he had one with forward controls, a Triumph America, so I went in to see it. POW! It was love at first sight. I came home and started searching the net to find out more. I have already checked on some used ones, (I can't afford new), and placed my Kawasaki Drifter up for sale. I thought I'd keep the Drifter the rest of my life, but the America has taken its place in my heart and head. Hope to own one real soon. Thanks for letting me share this.

Dave, We (me and my wife Kimmy) also fell for the America a couple years ago, and thought we could'nt afford it either. I was lucky, I guess, and checked out the company credit union. We are from the "back woods" I guess you could say, as far as financial institution knowledge, so I paid them a visit, took them the price and location of the bike, and in like 10 minutes they had me a check for my new America. That is the happiest I have been since a childhood Christmas. The credit union here in Atlanta had lost most of the Northwest Airline mechanics due to the maintenance base being shut down at Hartsfield, they lost thousands of accounts. With me being a 10 year airline veteran for another airline here in the ATL...they jumped on it, and financed both bikes (we got Kimmy's through them too) at like 4% apr through payroll deduction...They simply did'nt care about credit history, status, or anything else. We got a tremendous deal on both bikes, and we, as a family enjoy them more than any other family activity. If you can become a member of a local Credit Union, they are far better than any other source, and will make it happen...My bike will be paid off soon, and Kimmy's will soon follow. Now they want us to buy a new car through them, and as soon as I need one, I will go through them again....good luck and keep us posted...

Dave, you are definitely on the right track as the Triumph Bonneville America is the best looking, quickest going, quickest turning, quickest stopping cruiser scoot you can find. I got mine used and the advice is to check ebay, this site and local papers. I got mine for less than $4000 and this is definitely the time of year to negotiate. Good ridin'. SteveB

Welcome to the site. In case you haven't read it yet, this site makes owning a Triumph even better if that is possible. The people that you will meet, the help you will receive, and the knowledge you will gain is beyond invaluable. This site kept me from going insane for about a year before I found the exact year/model/color I wanted. Do not settle, get exactly what you want and make it your own. Enjoy your journey and again welcome.

Thanks man. I already know what I want. I also have found the one I want (if it is still available when my bike sells). I hope this site will give me the same help and comeraderie as the Drifter forum. It has been great fun, but now I must move on and get the Trumpet i want.

Welcome Dave. Hope you get yourself a new bike very soon. Oh, and as for the Quote:

Believe me, this little club here is even more addictive than the bike. As was proved this week when the site went down. Again, welcome. Good to have you with us.

I agree, cuz that's what I have also, and I bought from the same dealer as Tom. There are some great used ones out there, and many with a lot of add ons. Look around, check local dealers, ebay, Trader on Line, etc, you will find what you want.
Happy Holidays to you. Paw

Well, given that you are looking at a blue and white one, this seems like a good place for a shameless shot of the bike with the very impressive trophy...

I bought a 2007 Bonneville America in late October, after wanting one for a few years. I got a brand new one at a dealer in Denver for $7800 OTD. Plus the $1200 in accessories that Triumph was doing at the time. I have since removed the air injection and installed a fly-screen, tachometer and leather saddlebags. I am hating winter now more than ever. My poor America sitting in the garage, neglected. I can't wait until spring. I have already put 400 miles on it and expect to drive nothing but the Bonny once the sun comes back up. I said once, here http://www.bonnevilleamerica.com/forums/...e#Post264117..."A friend of mine has had three Triumphs. One Sprint and two different Bonneville's. I rode them all and loved them all. I have been wanting either a Speedmaster or America for a few years now and just finally broke down and wrote the check on a new '07 TBA and I LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT! btw, I got my first motorcycle when I was nine, in 1973. I have had at least one ever since and the Triumph is like no other. It's like finally being invited into an elite club that you've wanted to join for years. I have heard the odd complaint from time to time about Triumph, but no more than other makers. The Triumph is... I am really, seriously having trouble finding words to describe how much I love this bike. I'll try this. Last Saturday at church, a fellow that I know only a little bit, was carrying his helmet and he noticed that I had mine with me. After the service he came up and asked, "What are you riding?" I looked at him and said, "Triumph Bonneville America" and he got that look in his eye that only a Triumph owner can really appreciate. It is a look made up of mild surprise, a little envy, about half a smile and a pinch of 'hellz yeah' all rolled into one. mmmm... Sweet bike it is. Fun to ride, fun to look at, fun to work on, fun to talk about. Just plain fun."

Mine is a 2007. My last bike had spokes which was enough to convince me that I really like cast rims.

To each their own. I wouldn't trade my wire wheel spokes ever for alloys. Someday soon, guys will be paying a lot of money to get classic wire wheels on their Triumph cruisers. Maybe it's just because I'm an old guy with "classic" interests, but it was a major selling point to me.

I feel that way about spokes, carbs and chains. I don't like FI, and I don't like shaft or belt drives. Give me spokes, chains and carbs and I'm happy.....'course, it would help if there is a bike attatched to the carbs, chain and spokes! LOL Dave

True - "To each, their own." The choice is ultimately that of the individual, and I respect that.
I, on the other hand, have not had a spoked wheel since selling off a '72 Yamaha. I still cringe at the thought of cleaning those ****** spokes. They do look nice and all - But I don't want them EVER AGAIN.

Wow! Now thats a big one. It's a good thing you didn't enter a RED one or you would have had to trailer it home!

Congrat's on the new bike and welcome to the board. Get ready for plenty of attention from just about anyone. Nice area where you live. Wife and I had the bike down at Topsail Island this past September, had a blast riding around the area.

Thanks! I know I'll have fun with it. If nothing else, it will bring back memories of younger days with the Trophy and Daytona! Can't wait to get it and start putting some miles on it.

Since you had the old bikes and liked them you will most likely be very pleased. Seat of the pants measure they seem to have almost the same power to weight ratio minus the tinkering. Just change the oil and put gas in now and you can ride. No more adjusting and tweeking before you go except occasional chain adjustment. The rest of the wrenching is just play time for the most part.

Congrats on choosing the TBA America Blue/white, which is not only the most attractive color but is also the fastest. It's my first real bike and I love her. And get ready for the questions and compliments by the unknowing general public. I was at a stoplight, this past Monday (when I got my new H3 bulbs), and a driver rolled down his window and asked me about the bike. He didn't know Triumph was still around and was surprised she was a new bike. He said he liked the look and sound of her better than the Harleys. Enjoy your ride. Here's some pics of my baby... Actually, I made a small error....the bike I'm looking at isn't dark blue and white...its more the lighter blue and silver. I really like the color of yours, but a paint job will have to come later.
