Finishing my Christmas shopping I needed to go to a local Harley dealer (my first ever time at one) for my brother's and his wife's gift and made a few observations
They really dont want to wait on you if you got a Triumph jacket on
Not a bike in the parking lot but the store was full of peolple with H-D riding gear on (not just jackets but chaps etc)
Some guy was looking for a H-D tree ordament and they sugested to try the H-D store at the local mall ?
I did buy a sticker for my wifes helmet that said "die yuppie scum".The girl at the counter said that it was the first one of those she sold.I told her I wasnt suprised.
I felt dirty when I left and needed to go home and take a couple of showers

regular occurance here. Half the guys here that dress like that don't even own bikes. Cracks me up.

GEEZ! You people are much too hard on these folks! I've walked into many a H-D dealership over the years, and I have to say that almost all of those folks I've seen there brandishing their brand(hey I LIKE that..."brandishing their brand"...ain't that GOOD?!) so proudly and so "tastefully" I might add, DO seem to walk out of those showrooms and then jump upon those motorcycles of theirs. Well, with "motorcycles" used in the loosest possible manner of the word here, anyway. HEY! Even though the machines these poor misguided souls ride have a V-twin in 'em, those things DO HAVE two-wheels and a motor, don't they. That's close enough, right?! (BTW...the word "tastefully" above was ALSO used in the loosest possible manner)

we are not commenting on the riders but the guys who are dressed like that who arrive in cars or as I have often seen here don't even own a bike.

Well Ian, I'll still just bet cha that those dude and dudette, dressed to the Nine's in their Harley regalia, DO own Harleys because they're proud as punch to own AMERICAN and wouldn't in a million years own some foreign made brand!!! (I mean...don't be confused just because they often drive away from those dealerships in their CAMRYS or TUNDRAS dude!)

The same Harley rider who drives home in his Camry or Accord also proudly displays his "id rather push my Harley then ride a rice burner" patch on his jacket.

Yeah, 'you lot' down there. You know who you are...with yer year round sun and yer wide open spaces. Try coming over to sunny fu...er, flippin' Warrington with its rush hour traffic that starts at 3pm and ends at 7 and it's crappy, salty, icy roads and drivers that are squinting through the 2" diameter hole that they've rubbed in the condensation on the windscreen whilst trying to get home from their dead-end jobs in the shorterst time possible but failing miserably because the road planners round here couldn't organise a drunken get-together in a brewery and, as such, don't.
Jealous? Me? Too right!!!!

Back to the topic of this post. I will however have to take up for the harley guys and some dealers. Lots of really nice folks in that crowd and I always get compliments from them on my trump. Been to quite a few shindigs at harley dealers and have always been treated well. They put on some good food and music for free, quite often.

Now why do you feel the need to throw stones at the Toyota Camry's and Tundra's? They are more American than most of the Fords, Chevy's or Chrysler's out there on the roads. I have a new 07 Tundra and I know it was built in the USA.

Funny storey. I was managing a Despatch Company in good old London town. When this Tennessee Lass who was attending the Univeristy of Tennessee in Knoxville decided that she would get a summer job.......in London. She got a 3 month job working in a pub called 'The Popes Grotto' in Twickenham (suberb of Southwest London). One night i happened to go in there for a pint or two. She was working that night. We chatted for a while. Went on a date the following week, and were engaged 10 days later, three months later we were married. We lived in London for two years and then she decided she wanted to return to East Tennessee. I didnt put up any resistance. And now we have lived in Cleveland, TN for 14 years.
And yes, this area is absolutely beautiful, and it does have some of the finest motorcycle riding any where.

Not to get back on topic or anything, but ....  I love riding over to the local Harley shop.. yes, it is full of posers and wannabe bikers, but they are quite fun to play with! Last time I was there, I was looking for a bike cover for my speedy. Went in and asked if they had any covers that didn't have that awful "Harley Davidson" logo on 'em. Needless to say, I wound up buying one someplace else, but the reaction was well worth the trip  And speaking of posers, I just flew back into the country yesterday, and I had a stop over at Orlando International (MCO). There is actually a Harley shop inside the airport. So I stopped in and asked the sales lady just how many bikes they sell in a year.. the response was "Oh, we don't sell motorcycles"! Had to snap a picture just so I could prove that I wasn't making this stuff up...  (Click for bigger view)  Cheers, Brad

A few years ago our local HD superstore had a pretty big shindig with Santa, food, drink and a radio station remote. My Fiancee' and I dropped in (nothing else to do, weather too bad to ride). Well, after walking around and looking at the new HDs, walking the clothes aisles and having a laugh randomly pulling parts off the shelf and proclaiming to each other (not using inside voices) what foreign country they were made in, we made an observation. There were approx. 200+ people in the store at any one time, and in the hour we were there, NOT ONE PERSON actually sat on a bike. That's pretty funny, IMO. That many people in the store for that long and no one threw their leg across a seat. Definitely not there for the bikes....

I think these shops are a very good idea. There is no doubt in my mind that a Triumph store like that would work too and promote the bikes at the same time. Set up with a 60s British theme in an airport could make a fortune.
So the problem with this type of store is??
I try to aggravate one person a day. Today may be your day.

Now now, don't blame the bikes for the actions of the "riders". I have no problems with Harley, they are what they are and do not try to be something they are not. I can't blame a company for turning a profit. I do get a great laugh from these types of people though.

I went to a bike show back in the spring and saw the same kind of thing. There was a ride from the local Japan Inc. to the fair grounds with a show after. I was not able to make the ride but did ride out to the show. It was a cool wet spring morning for us lite rain until noon and a hi in the 60's.
Any way when I get to the show I find out only about 10 bikes made the ride and there were only about 20 in the show. Between the show and the parking lot there were less than 30 bikes mine being one. To look around you would think there were 100 bikes by the way people were dressed. Every where you looked Harley jackets tons of people in chaps and boots. After a quick look at the show I followed these 4 guys out. They all had on H-D jackets and chaps and boots. So when I get on my bike I look around to see what they are ridding and guess what it was a 4 door Tundra pickup.
