You would think that with a rise in production there would be an increase in number of dealerships.

I'd say 41,125 machines is small change if you look at it globally. Maybe when its 10 times that you'll see a dealership on every corner.
Over here there are at least 3 dealerships within 40 miles.

I'm looking for a new way to make a living. How much do they want, if you don't mind me asking.
I was told it costs a million to open a Harley dealership. Never verified it though. I seriously considered getting in on the HD $ frenzy until I learned the amount it takes to put some skin in the game. (Woulda had to park my Trumpet next door though )

Well, if we in the US only bought 800 per state that would be all the production. That is a drop in the bucket. They need dealers and they need them now!

Ron, I totally agree. There may be 3 dealers within a 40 mile range in England, but there are a lot of areas in the U.S. where there is not a dealer in more than a 100 miles, many areas 200 miles. That makes it a much tougher sell. My nearest dealer is 45 miles away and I consider myself lucky. If there were a dealer in the town I live in, there would definitely be more Triumphs running around here.

Bob I agree with you also. Maybe advertising isn't what it should be either. And most Americans want to buy American.
I have an example of a furniture shop from Sweden "Ikea". They only have 6 or so stores in England. But they advertise the gear well. People travel for miles and miles to shop there and they make lots of doe from it.
So really, if someone wants a trump, they'll travel for it.
200 miles is still a bit steep though.

San Antonio is the 8th largest US city and they finally in 08 will have a dealership. The next closest is 68 miles away in Austin.
In this area they need to learn from Harley. Dealer development is as important as anything else you can do to grow the company. Triumph doesn't seem to care much about that.

I looked into it about a year ago. Pretty much you need about 3mil to get the doors open. Figure they want 300K in credit befor they even put a bike on the floor..
So figure if you want to carry a nice line you will need at least- 5 of each bike on the floor. a service dept with factory trained techs a well stocked parts room dont forget advertising oh and you need a building now you need to outfit the building might be a good idea to get a sales man on the floor.
I did the numbers for me to open on last year and it was roughly 3 million dollars.. Not really a lot of money in todays worlds, but still a good chunk
