Well I sure have not had a good week. It now looks like I will have to put down Zac my one dog. He has always had a problem with his back hips and has been on medication most of his life. However the medication really made him into a new dog and he has lived a good and healthy life. Saturday morning I noticed he was not very steady on his legs and by Saturday night he could not even get up. The vet came out gave him some heavy shots and we have been medicating him all day but still no improvement. I phoned the vet now and he said we will have to see by Monday how he is and only then make a decision. I somehow have a bad feeling about this.

Now I am not sure if during the robbery they kicked him in his back or something but we did not notice that there was a problem that night.

I really just feel flat right now

Sorry to hear about Zac Dave. I know what it's like having to make the big decision. Only you can make that call. Whatever you decide, I'm sure it will be what's best for Zac. He sure looks like a great dog. Your lucky to have him.

Regards,

Tom

Gutted for you, Dave. Got 3 of my own and would be lost without them, had 4 but lost one of them last year.

My thoughts are with ya....try and think of the good times you had with him and know he had a happy life with you.

I am very sorry Dave. I wish I could take your pain away but nothing can do that. As many on here have said to me,try and remember the good times. Dogs are family and it hurts greatly to lose a family member. Try and be strong and you have my sympathies.

I've been there more than once and there may be nothing worse than making that call. Grieve for your companion and try to remember those great moments you both had. Then, go get another dog to fill the vacancy, it really helps. You have my sincerest condolences.

Sorry Dave. Take solice in the fact you'll see him again someday. I'm sure he's in a better place with no pain.

That's rough Dave.
I've always had dogs, and always will.
It truly sucks losing them, but I still get others. Have two right now. A seven year old and a 10 week pup. These are numbers seven and eight.

I'm really sorry to hear of your loss. My brother just put his 16 year old Jack Russell down and he is mourning. Pets are like members of the family and deserve the best care we can give them. Good luck

I'm so sorry Dave, losing a family member takes a long time to get over. 1 year ago today we lost our female dog of 8 years and filled the void this summer.Seems like this helps but you still remember and it still sucks.my condolances Dave.

sorry to hear of your loss too Mike. Harley was 8 too and that seems way too young to lose them. Not to take away from your loss Dave, it's always hard and the pain gets less and the good times start to over shadow the pain but the loss is always there.

so sorry to hear of everyones recent losses of beloved companions,,,,the bible [can i say that here]????says the amimals were given to us for food, clothing ,,AND ENJOYMENT. they really become as much a part of our family as our kids,,,they are our kids. i've got an 16 year old feist-dawg that i've got to do the humanitarian thing with,,,, my wife won't let her go though, so i give her 2 insulin shots per day, chase her down and bring her in when she gets lost in yard[blind], and fix her the good stuff to eat.[broiled chicken breasts]. it's always sad to loose an integral part of your famiily......best wishes.......lester

Max needs a new playmate. I took Eds advice and filled the void with a new family member and she has helped me greatly. I still miss Harley terribly but Kizmitt takes my mind off of it and when I do think of Harley and how much I miss her it is always a thought of something good we enjoyed together or some quirk she had that makes me smile then I think of how much her loss has hurt me. She has perked up Peanut too, they play together and are like 2 peas in a pod already. She has taught Kizmitt some of the games the she used to play with Harley and it does my heart good. I am not telling you you should run right out and get a dog but it did help me. Kizmitt picked us, she broke out of her cage in a seperate room and came out and sat by us. I wasn't looking to adopt that day just playing with dogs at the pounds to help me. Playing with the dogs made me feel better and then she picked us so we figured it was meant to be. She is bad and a pain in the butt but she is family already and we love her. Since it was meant to be we thought about naming her destiny but didn't like that then I said kismet and Wendy liked that. She didn't know what it meant so I explained it to her and she thought it was perfect. So she is Kizmitt.

--A Dog's Purpose (from a 6-year-old) -- from a vet:

"Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife, Lisa, and their little boy, Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle."

"I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn't do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home."

"As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience. "

"The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away. "

"The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker's death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. "

Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, "I know why."

Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I'd never heard a more comforting explanation.

He said, "People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life -- like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?" The six-year-old continued, "Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long."

Remember, if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like:
When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to
be pure ecstasy.

My condolences, Dave. It's always hurts to lose a member of the family, and these critters certainly qualify as just that.(at least in this family they do)

I am sorry Dave. Put one of mine down 3 weeks ago at 14. They become part of the family and leave a void for sure.

If they can't be a dog anymore and are suffering its the kind thing to do even though it hurts a lot.

When I was very young and couldn't understand why the pain would not stop at the loss of my dog, my mom told me this.
