I have to charge VAT.
People not in the know think I get that extra 17.5% myself. Not the case, well not all of it anyway.
Every quarter, I get to write a cheque to HM Customs and Excise ....
It also means if I'm competing against some bloke who is not VAT registered (for whatever reason
) I get to come out 17.5% more expensive than him.
Times like that, I have to rely on wit, charm and my devilish good looks to get the work
I can never compete against the 'friend of a friend' who is prepared to work for pound notes.
