Noticed this while looking for LED after market ....

"Priced per pair £29.78 Excluding VAT
£35.00 Including VAT at 17.5%"

Do you guys pay 17.5% tax on everything or just stuff for your bikes.....

A little off topic:
At 22 lamps per unit, the trucking industry has embraced LED technology for the past xx years. If you're looking for prices, you might want to look there. Can't say if you'll find a shape or color you like though.

Two of the major players are

We pay 17.5% on virtually everything, if it is not displayed it will be already in the price. If you are outside the UK, you may get away with not paying the VAT, but you may have to pay something in your own country.

We buy from the US we have to pay 17.5% VAT on the total cost including postage. Then import tax, Customs duty, and then a handling fee. If it is marked as a gift we are allowed a value of I think £20.00, but if the parcel is from a business, i.e stamped with a business header on the package we pay the lot, unless they miss it.

And on insurance policies, airline tickets, selling your house, buying a house, living in your house, the electric and gas for your house, the water for your house, a relative dying, anything you buy other than some foodstuffs and some books, next stop is the air you breathe !!!!

Another reason I quit the U.K. and moved to Spain.

Let me tell you how it will be;
There's one for you, nineteen for me.
'Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.

Should five per cent appear too small,
Be thankful I don't take it all.
'Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.

(if you drive a car, car;) - I’ll tax the street;
(if you try to sit, sit;) - I’ll tax your seat;
(if you get too cold, cold;) - I’ll tax the heat;
(if you take a walk, walk;) - I'll tax your feet.

Taxman!

'Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.

Don't ask me what I want it for, (ah-ah, mister Wilson)
If you don't want to pay some more. (ah-ah, mister heath)
'Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.

Now my advice for those who die, (taxman)
Declare the pennies on your eyes. (taxman)
'Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.

And you're working for no one but me.

Taxman!

We are selling off a vehicle fleet. Since the vehicles were part of a depreciation schedule, every penny of the proceeds will be taxed as corporate income. If we pocket the money, it will be taxed AGAIN as personal income.

At least they spend it wisely...

At the moment we don't pay VAT on food or childrens clothing. But the EU want to change all that and increase the rate to 22%.

Seems we can't support their gross extravagance, illegal and corrupt practices, expenses fiddles, grant skimming scams and incompetence on 17.5% Value (??) Added Tax.

One ex-leader of the opposition Mr Neil Kinnock (The Welsh Windbag) on being heavily defeated in a general election helped get his wife elected as a euro mp then became her boss. He then he suspended a corruption whistle-blower and did sweet fanny adams about corruption except milk it for all it was worth.

If you do it today you MIGHT regret it. If you CAN'T do it tomorrow you WILL regret it.

I've spent US$74 on some things from Cafe Press for my mum for Xmas.

It's currently at the sorting office as I've had to pay £13.95 in customs et al charges.....

And it's only 8% on household gas and electricity and 0% on safety stuff...like my work boots.

I have to charge VAT.
People not in the know think I get that extra 17.5% myself. Not the case, well not all of it anyway.
Every quarter, I get to write a cheque to HM Customs and Excise ....
It also means if I'm competing against some bloke who is not VAT registered (for whatever reason ) I get to come out 17.5% more expensive than him.
Times like that, I have to rely on wit, charm and my devilish good looks to get the work
I can never compete against the 'friend of a friend' who is prepared to work for pound notes.

Sorry i get vat back every month.
As i only sell fruit and veg on my market stall and theirs no vat to pay.But i claim back anything that has vat on it to do with the business. ie carrybags, derv,running of van etc.I fill in a small vat form each month.then have that amount ( approx £60 £100 ) paid straight into my account.
So for me its good . But im one of the VERY few.
Trying to work out how my tba can be part of the business when i buy goodies from the states tho

Easy, register it as a company vehicle! An occasional member here, Martyn, registered his Rocket 3 through his company, and even managed to get back the VAT he paid to buy it.

If you send him a pm, I am sure he will offer advice on what to do!

So when I ship to the UK Ray, I should NOT use my Fast eddy Sports return labels? I'll take care not to follow that practice in the future.

Some Presidential candidates over here are promoting a 'Fair Tax' (amounting to a national VAT) to replace the current Federal Income Tax system now in place. The advocates say/claim the plan would continue the existing level of federal funding from income taxes while eliminating the Internal Revenue Service and would replace income taxes, Social Security taxes, corporate taxes, and a few other current means of revenue by placing a flat tax on all consumer goods nationwide. What they don't explain is how this would replace the state level income taxes as well as property taxes on assessed real property such as cars, boats, houses, etc. While a 'Fair Tax' sounds good on the surface, I doubt it would ever be enacted, and if it were to be enacted, whether it would work well enough to provide the revenue to the government which is now realized by the current (albeit screwed up and complicated) tax codes. I also think it would encourage black and gray market economies to spring up.

I don't envy you all in the UK and other places where not only is an inflated VAT imposed, but you ALSO have huge income and property taxes assessed. I suppose that your government(s) NEED the extra revenue to fund all the surveillance cameras Big Brother seems to be so fond of 'over there.'

Hey JB the government reckon that in the major cities of the UK, you are on a surveillance camera. You do not even get away with if you do not get out of your car as they now have
Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR)

Quote:

Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) is probably the next growth product to take off in the UK,(and the world) in fact, it is already beginning to be the biggest potential earner for installation companies. Network systems were all the hype in recent years but have not really grown as the pundits originally predicted. One problem is that it crosses technological barriers and the needs of available bandwidth were conveniently obscured.

On the other hand ANPR technology is completely within the scope of knowledge of CCTV companies, although there are a few new terms and technologies to come to grips with. As with previous new developments there is plenty of scope for the industry to deliver more hype and misinformation. There are pitfalls for the unwary and this and future articles will aim to explain some of these for the customer and installer (or, systems integrator).

We are grateful for assistance in producing this article to CitySync for the APR system and Derwent CCTV for information on infrared illumination.

We will start by considering ANPR for a single lane using a dedicated camera and go on to discuss some other applications such as multi-lane systems and Town Centre systems with colour cameras.

These are linked to the database at DVLA/Police, and it scans your reg plate and the details come back within seconds. They then know if the car is stolen, taxed, licenced and the owner etc.

We even have people watching you to make sure you do not drop your fag ends and litter in the cities.

JB,

What I don't understand is what's so hard about a FLAT RATE INCOME TAX? One flat rate...period. No deductions...PERIOD! All these deductions that have accumulated over the years were nothing but special interests having their way with the I.R.S. via Congress.

I ask: Wouldn't "simplifying to the basics" release many of the funds that go to just operating the I.R.S. in the first place. I know H&R Block and all the other companies and individuals who have profited over the years by "helping" us taxpayers make some sense of this presently overly complicated system may not approve....but frankly, I don't care about them, dude. Let 'em get a job countin' beans with some firm that needs their beans counted.

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Be VERY careful Eddy. This may constitute federal law infringement and they don't look too kindly on this. We get asked to falsify Customs documents all the time. I'm ALL for screwing the govt as much as possible. Unfortunately, it's just not worth the potential consequences.

Have key fob for sale for the correct amount and make the 'real' item a gift with the purchase. Post them separately. There must be some loop hole.

Paying that customs tax has stopped me buying from over the pond. I'll just browse the personal classified for gear... its cheaper.
