I always check this site,
Gamespot before I decide to buy a game. They do a pretty good job of reviewing the games and giving them a score of 1-10. What I also like is they provide an average score of what their competitors have given the game and let members of the site give a score which then gets averaged out as well.
If you look there they have games separated into categories so you can choose the type of game you like to play.
