Hey guys I just got some new bars for my America and I need a longer brake hose and would like it to be braided. Now do we just have a standard fitting like on harleys or do we need something special?? thanks

Tom,

I don't know about the HD lines working, ours are considered "metric cruisers".

But Brent at newspeedmaster.com can get you a custom length Spiegel braided brake line. Usually excellent turn around time and besides, he supports this site....

HD stuff *should* have inchic threads instead of metric. But, you never know, they buy so much crap from the far east.

The brake line itself is all the same. You can use Harley lines. You just use the stock banjo bolt which I think is 10mm. The harley braided line that aftermarket companies sell use either a 8mm or a 10mm Banjo opening. If you do use the harley line make sure you use the 10mm banjo opening bolts. They come in a few bends, either straight, 90 degree and 45 degree angles. I think the stock BA/SM uses a 90 bend banjo opening on both ends.

Goodridge [available @ JP cycles] makes a cut to fit brake line kit. This allows your to run the line anyway you want-through the bars, frame, etc. I have used it on my bobber project running the line through the frame and I am very pleased.

I have used the cut to fit brakeline as well. The fittings are a pain to work with but they work out better when you are doing a total custom build like yours. I think he can get away with pre-cut lines.

The only part that was a challenge was finding the right flaring tool. The custom kit just gives you more options. As far as the length, Russell lines or Goodridge lines can be custom ordered on their webpage or at J P cycles. I used a pre-made line upfront and a custom 'through the frame' for the rear. I used the stock Triumph calipers and combined the front with a PM master cylinder and the rear with XOXOPRODX forward controls. I am very happy with the performance of both set-ups.

Could you post some pics of those?
