I believe flat black would look better than silver.
Yeah definately flat black...they'd defiantely look nice recessed in the kneepad too...i'll have to get some kneepads.

yeah cause if you look closely at the painted dash I have its a matte with a slight gloss to it when compared to the tank paint, so the kneepads should set it off pretty decently.

An English wheel does wonders for compound curves. Takes a little practice, but not too bad to work with.

ahah...back from the dead
it ended up getting shelved because of the winter. I work in my backyard sitting on a cinderblock, and in the winter i dont have any daylight
see i think an english wheel would flatten/distort the diamondplate pattern. It seems like it wouldnt bend anything until the diamonds are flattened out enough for it to actually move back and forth.
The diamond plate would have to be steel to weld to the tank. It would be nice to take it to a custom shop and have it done right...but thats a decent amount of money for no reason. I think im gonna try the rubber kneepad fixation relation, and see how that "holds" get it?

A possible solution that could be used is an old jewellery technique using a pinch bowl that is bowl /box filled with a mixture of sand and tar which is heated with metal on top of the hardened tar this allows the metal and tar to soften. This allows the metal to be beaten and worked while supported. The Tar cools and hardens slowly which allows small changes within the metal to be made. You can beat out almost any shape imaginable using pinchbowl. Most of the old silversmiths and goldsmiths used this for working metal sheet. Just a thought. It does work I have used it in a previous job and was amazed at the results.
