We just had an early turkey tonight. Cooked it up then let it sit and had sandwiches. I actually like that better than just the bird itself. Still be going to moms for turkey dinner the day of. Happy turkey day to all.

Wild Turkey reminds me of the time in college in Tampa when, after drinking too much of the stuff, I woke up in the elevator of the dorm with my pants around my ankles and marker written all over me. Good times...good times.
I will be staying away from the liquid turkey again this year.

From http://www.diet-blog.com/archives/2007/11/22/top_ten_turkey_trivia.php

1. Turkey consumption has increased 108% since 1970.

2. U.S. Today growers produce nearly one turkey for every person in the country.

3. More than 46 million turkeys are expected to be eaten on Thanksgiving and another 22 million for Christmas.

4. The average weight of a turkey purchased at Thanksgiving is 15 pounds and usually has about 70 percent white meat and 30 percent dark meat.

5. The heaviest turkey ever raised was 86 pounds, about the size of a large dog.

6. Wild turkeys can fly at a speed of as much as 55 miles per hour over short distances and are good runners with a speed of about 25 miles per hour. Commercially raised turkeys cannot fly.

7. Turkey breeding has caused turkey breasts to grow so large that the turkeys fall over.

8. Turkeys don’t really have ears like ours, but they have very good hearing.

9. Wild turkeys spend the night in trees. They especially like oak trees.

10. While there was some conflict over 'turkey' and 'bald eagle' for being the National Bird of America. Benjamin Franklin voted out 'bald eagle' for being cowardly.

Anybody ever had a wild turkey? I think that's my next Thanksgiving goal after this year's turducken.

Both the liquor and the game bird. The game bird left a better aftertaste. Another Turducken here, wanted an Herbert's Specialties but got a Cajun Market as dictated by SWMBO but, hey, she's doing the cooking so who am I to complain? The shrimp and crawdad stuffing sounds like it ought to be pretty good...have a Happy Thanskgiving everyone.

We have wild turkeys here in my yard all the time....but, as far as i'm concerned this is their little sanctuary away from the bullets. I've seen many and some with their chicks right in my front and backyard. One time, saw one of the chicks riding on the back of it's mother. Pretty cool.

I also see many deer in the yard and have seen a couple mountain lions and a couple bobcats here. We have some resident roadrunners which show up here quite often, too. (pretty rare to see these birds). Got lots of pics of the roadrunners, turkeys and deer.

I went with the regular cornbread stuffing turducken from cajungrocer.com for my first one. Should be pretty good.
