You're right on the Eastern European thing Jim. The Communism established there was just a rehash of the feudal systems that had ruled there for centuries.
Beware of establishing any messiah complexes (thinking that if the right person is elected or not, all will be good or bad) regarding politicians. Especially at the national level where party platforms rule.
