What's the best screen for an America? Almost bought the factory one this week but something told me that a third party manufacturer who understands aerodynamics would be better. I'm 6'2" and I'm looking for something to block wind on cold mornings and to smooth buffeting. Any advice?

Everyone here is going to have a different opinion on which is the best, just like aftermarket seats.
Do a search through past posts and also in the archives and that will give you a better idea than a few answers that you`ll get in the next couple of days.

I'm reall happy with the Clearview oversized shield on the Triumph brackets. Add the Memphis Shades lowers and you've got decent wind protection for a cruiser.

I'm really impressed by my Windvest, a 14" clear- took minutes to install and no buffetting at all. I'm 5-8, so you will likely want a larger size.

I am pleased with my windvest. It blocks enough wind to make a difference. Its about the same at 40 as at 70. The sheild will adjust as far as the pitch so your hieght can vary. I am 6-1 and get little or no head buffeting. It took a little while and a few trips down the road with the allen wrench but I found the sweet spot.

I forgot to say that it is small enough that you look over it not through it. For me that makes a difference.

I have a large Clearview on mine that works well with lowers. I also have a Triumph roadster. You're welcome to drop by (I'm in North VA) and mount up the roadster, take it for a few days and see what you think. You can also take my green for a run to see what you think of the Clearview. I'm 5'7" and sit fully behind the Clearview, and look over the roadster. For me, after installing either of these screens, most of the buffet is generated from air coming from up around the lower forks. The lowers take care of that. The best screen I've had all-around is the Givi A600. Unobtrusive, lightly tinted, nice hefty feel, works. Photo in my gallery of the A600 mounted on my last BA, a Fast Red, as a matter-of-fact.

I'm stupid.. I found your gallery jj_. Nice pic. I'm interested in the best available windscreen. I'll probably research the subject for awhile.

I bought this one. It was a bit of a pain to mount but I am happy with it. I see through it instead of over it. I think I bought the SS32-16CV (oversized forks). http://www.slipstreamer.com/Product/Cruisers/cruisers.htmlYou can see it in my <<pix>> gallery

moose,
Here's a pic of my 16" Windvest on my '03 TA.
It doesn't block a lot of wind, just eliminates the head buffeting. If you're looking for that cozy cocoon effect, this won't do it for you....
BTW, I'm 6' tall and have it set so I just look over the top.

Moose, I'm 6'1+. I had the Triumph summer screen, (about 13") which looked cool, but the buffeting was much worse than nothing at all. Then I put on a 16" Memphis Slim. Much better, and I look right over the top with my slightly lower Corbin seat. At least I can hear my own pipes now, because the wind noise is much reduced. I still get buffeting which comes up from under the screen. The air flows up along the tank and hits me in the chest and face. It's a little irritating but tolerable. I suspect that adding 'lowers' would eliminate or much reduce the problem.

Cat: How is the wind protection on that Fats. I have a Slims and it could be better. I also have lowers and am still trying to dial them in.
I wondered why the frisbee was getting bigger......and then it hit me.

I know this is arguable and blah blah blah but... I HAVE tried 3 or 4 different screens and the fats with lowers really is the best in my book. Well made and handsome if you like the look and, with the lowers, really very effective at reducing wind noise and buffetting.
I for sure wish I had done this first instead of last.

That Memphis Fats looks pretty good.
Does it fit on the stock Triumph Roadster hardware without modification?
What is the model number?
Also, what is the model number of the Memphis Lowers?
Winter is coming, and one wants to be cozy as possible!

Wanted to try and keep all the windshield stuff to one thread instead of starting another, hopefully I can get an answer soon as I am ready to hit the "add to cart" button as soon as I know what to order..... I have never really liked the way they look on bikes but there is some available now that I don't think look half bad and I'm tired of "eating" all the wildlife and road debris. Sooooo, if I get one that is around 2 to 3 inches below my line of sight will that have enough deflection to keep said wildlife out of my eyes? I had a Guzzi once years ago with a full fairing and I HATED looking through the windshield, distortion and such and when I got caught in the rain a few times it was like some kind of bad acid trip. Oh the pretty colors, not safe though me thinks. I have been looking at the Memphis Shades shields, specifically the Pop Top and the Shooter. The Shooter is a universal mount, attaches to the bars. The Pop Top mounts to the forks though and as I understand if I order the mounting kit for a Marauder I'm good to go, correct? Any issues with either of these shields as far as fitting them to our bikes that anyone knows of? Oh and lastly.... what size do I need for the headlight opening? Guess I need to pick between a 7" or 9". I know we have a 7" light but does this take into account that the bucket puts it closer to a 9" circle out front? Thanks guys, Steve

I'm also looking for windscreen advice, never liked the looks of 'em, but fear I am getting older and being buffetted and pelted has lost some of the appeal of youth. I like the looks of the Triumph Roadster screen, it looks clean and is not the first thing you notice about the bike. Looking forward to finding more information. Thanks!

I'm 5' 11" and look over the top of my Triumph Roadster windscreen. It's perfect for my height. I sat on a friends HD Road King last week and was surprised to be looking through his hazy, scratched windscreen.
Looks like the Memphis Fats screen is of a similar size, probaby costs less than the Triumph screen.

I think I'm tending towards the WindVest only because of it's thickness and aerodynamic properties. It's a bit pricey... a total of $387 (Wow) for the 16" version direct from the factory... they called me today. A lot of money for a 14" x 16" piece of plastic and some fancy hardware. Grump seems to like his and I've always been one to do something a little different than others. Still haven't decided yet though I'm getting there and I think I would go with the clear one.

Yes, that ebay screen might keep the pocketbook happy! Probably not tall enough for me though.

Well I ended up ordering a Memphis Shades Shooter. Price was right, knew it was short enough that I wouldn't be looking through it and since I'm thinking of pulling my fork shrouds and doing some chrome work on the front end the bar mounted style seemed to be the way to go. Soon as I get it and get it mounted I'll put some pics up and then I have a 600 mile trip to the folks the middle of October so I can give a pretty good review. You know, how it deflected the wildlife, rain and/or snow, ect. Ah, biking in October in the Midwest, it's anybody's guess what the weather will be..... hope it(windshield) works real good like!.. hehehe
