I have an 07 speedmaster and I can promise you that it doesn't strain at 80-85.
I used to have a vstrom! one of my favorite bikes. I made the change to a more traditional style cruiser (boulevard) and I miss it dearly.
But it's a catch 22 because The speedmaster (other then leg room-can be fixed) is probably one of my all time favorite bikes to ride.
you won't have as MUCH torque as the vstrom but with pipes and a rejet, you'll be happy.
IMHO, I would go with the larger engine size and to boot, you should get the $1100 accessories insentive as well.
$8000 out the door with no hidden fees and $1100 on accessories is a very good deal.
