The battery has a hard time clearing the bottom tray's lip. Flex upward on the top strap while you sort-of rock the battery lee to starboard and lift up and out. Just pulled mine yesterday without removing the cables. Be careful on the positive terminal. Best to disconnect the neg first! But you knew that! Goop up the leads with dielectric grease next time you are there.
