I know you guys have already talked about this not long ago, but feel the need to rant. So I recently recommended that a friend of mine check out the dealer that I bought my triumph from, as I love my new Triumph and had a very positive experience buying from them, even considering that it took a full month to get my bike in once it was ordered (wow, that's a really long sentence!). Anyway, I got a really good deal on it, but remember really having to kind of kick and scream initially, but was very satisfied with the interactions afterward, and like the folks that work there. So my friend goes into the same dealer after I brag 'em up, and gets treated like a total dog turd . Where they worked with me on my '07, they are doing nothing for friend, and charging him about a grand's worth of extra BS fees. It's really irritating. I'm PO'd cause here I am, sticking my neck out for the dealership, trying to help them, and then boom, they treat my friend like a second rate customer. When my friend then went and called another dealer that was about three hours away, they said that the only fee they charged was a forty dollar processing fee. My friend showed our local dealership the quote and he was told by the seller that if he went to the other dealership to get the lower price that he was somehow "devaluing" Triumph in general, and that he would not get the 10% RAT discount if he bought the bike elsewhere, even though he would still be RAT. So my upset at this point has to do with feeling caught in the middle, as I don't want to PO my local Triumph mechanic and dealer when they have treated me well, and I will likely continue to have interactions with them as long as I own my bike. At the same time though, I want to let 'em know that I'm PO'd because they did not treat my friend as well as they treated me. Oh, and to tell them that the whole deal about "devaluing" Triumph by getting a better deal is a bunch of s***. A consumer should always consider their own best interests in a sales interaction unless they are a total moron. I told my friend to go to the out of town dealership and get the bike. :

Was it the same sales guy at the dealer? That could make the difference right there. I'd call your usual sales guy, tell him about the situation and about your feelings, remind him that your friend is willing to buy, and reiterate that while you plan to keep a relationship with them regardless you hope they can make your friend as pleased as you are.

Looks like you already decided where your priorities are. I hope that mechanic deserves that type of loyalty.

Well there are only two salespersons at this dealership and the one my friend spoke to is not the one that I dealt with, however they know that we are friends and I think could have treated him better. I will speak with the salesperson I worked with when they open next week, and I'll see what happens. If they don't want to sell my friend a bike at a reasonable rate then f*** 'em I guess. Their loss. As far as the mechanic goes and the staff overall, they've been really cool, like I said, even going so far as to throw in free labor and stuff like that, including parts above and beyond the original agreement. It's more like when you have a friend you're bragging about and then they make a jerk out of themselves when they meet the person you're talking to. Anyway Matt, probably do exactly what you recommended on Monday, and more than anything wanted to vent as my friend walked in ready to buy a bike today and left the shop without one. He was bummed out and I was bummed out for him.

10% RAT discount? Is that like a cushion for being overcharged?

I've never heard of a RAT discount on service. I have heard of discounts from shops if you bought your bike there, but has absolutley nothing to do with RAT.

My local dealer Pure Triumph will give 10% discount on accessories only, not on parts or service, to RAT members. It applies to all RAT members, not just ones that bought bikes from them.

My local Youles Motorcycles dealer also will give 10% discount on all triumph accessories to RAT members, I think this is a standard thing across the board in the UK..

I suspect the corporate people in Newnan might be interested to learn (BTW they read this forum) a dealer is threatening to discriminate against certain RAT members based on where they purchased their bike. That "cheapens" the Triumph name quicker then any pricing concessions.

Well I am the GUY that wants the bamn bike! SMOKEINHISEYES is a very trusted friend of mine and I regrettably know how he feels about the situation and his loyalty with a friend has not and will not be compromised as far as I am concerned. My problem is that if I buy the bike somewhere else and go back in there for service then I know I am going to be treated like @%$#! Here is what I wrote this A.M before I found this thread......... Went in with financing but the sales girl started jacking me around and adding $$ to it. 165$ for pushing paper $600 for transportation and crating. Then wanted to start shaving down the $1200 in free stuff to get the bike priced where I wanted it. At this point I had been in her office for 3 hrs....yes I said three hrs. I was so worn down that I said I would be back......with fresh blood(my wife. so had to have my wife go in there and talk with her woman to woman. All she got was more run around but the lady offered us 10% off anything in there store forever if we bought the bike and free T-shirt, because HER CUSTOMERS ALWAYS GET A FREE SHIRT. Found out after we left(with out the bike) that you get the 10% anyway when you join RAT! Anyone out there got any advice, brick, torch or any ideas. If there are any dealers reading these let me know if you have a bike and want a long distance customer!

I absolutley agree. There are two things about them mentining a RAT discount for their dealership that bothers me is that RAT is that RAT is worldwide not dealer specific. The other is that RAT is free to join for anyone with a Hinkley Triumph. Even if you still had to pay for RAT and still got membership cards, it is still world wide and would be good at all dealers. What the dealer said is just wrong.

I definitley know and understand loyalty to a dealer. I am very loyal to mine, but it is because they treat every customer as family and treat every person that comes through the door with honesty and respect.

Peter, you were just reated very wrong by that dealer. None of it sounds right at all. If they bent over backwards for Michael to get him a good deal and service, they should do that for each and every customer. In my oinion, someone should get in touch with the owner/general manager of the dealership. If the GM or owner is not willing to give you the same deal as Mike, then definitely go somewhere else. I know you are concerned with being treated well by the service department, but when you do go in for service, just deal with the service department and not the sales floor.
Is this a small shop or is it a mega super store dealer? What is the name of the dealer?

Since it is a small dealership, it should be easier to get in touch with the owner.
It is completely wrong of them to knock anything off of the $1200 in accessories. That is a Triumph deal, not a dealership deal. The dealer get reimbursed from Triumph for that. They should make you the exact same deal that they made for Mike, if not a better one.

Not to stick up for the stealer but most do charge for dealer prep or shipping, aka the 500 to 600 usd add on charge unless it was a floor model for a long time or a demo for a while then they will knock off the 5 to 6 hundred charge. Was smokeinhiseyes's bike a demo? if not I can't explain the reasoning for the differences unless it is all the sales person. good luck!

I actually agree with you. I don't mind some fees, ****** its expected. But to cover them up and then use the 1200.00 as a way to recoup them is backasswords. The bike my buddy got had to be ordered from the warehouse and I think was promised in a week or two and then ended up taking a few days over a month to get in. Then the sales gal he had had talked him into some pipes that were supposed to be loud and ended up being just short of what you would expect a new bike to sound like but with a chirp.

My bike was not a demo. In fact they had to order it, cause they didn't have it in stock at the time. In my case they wouldn't get rid of the 600 dollar charge, but gave it to me in accessories, which I was fine with. BTW, I have to go in on Tuesday anyway and would be happy to bring my sales slip with me with all the details of what I got on mine. If they aren't willing to match it then, then I guess I might as well start driving the three hours with you to get service done on my bike, cause that is some BS. I would also hope that Biker's Edge would at least be concerned that two people from Wichita (customers) are putting all this information about them on the web, and expressing their unhappiness with the sales experience.

Yes, it is BS. At the very least the two of you will get in a great ride every few months.

Id get involved in the local RAT to let others locally know what idiots these guys are. I would nt give them a lick of business, and would write letters to Triumph corp in GA and in the UK. This crap is on par with the Harley preferred crap, where you spent 20K on a bike, but need to jion the club to get good service.
Around here, a Yamaha dealer tried to tell me that is the best deal out there, all the add ons and crap, I told him to pound sand and called him a con and also told him I hope he goes out of business. Now, isnt it funny they had to sell it this year, not enough sales to stay afloat.

Well, does anyone know any of the REPS for Triumph? I would like to talk to them. I know the one that was here in the MIDWEST is no longer with them so Biker Edge has been flying solo for a month now. Anyway I wonder if a deal could be made through that person or a dealership they service? I am rally considering not stepping back into the shop because of all this. I truly believe no matter what happens If I bought a bike from them or someone else that they would hold it against me. Mike, maybe the weekend of Thanksgiving we should run up to Eldorado Mo to the dealership and see what they have. I will check in KC as well but I think the MO shop is closer........

I dotn know why you would even consider dealing with someone who obviously isnt respecting you, nor really hungry to earn it.
Look online, call some other dealers and see who will make a deal with you ( dont rely on anyone, especially a rep, to do it for you. For a rep, it could be a conflict of interest, to pick one dealer over another. Not all reps have the balls to do it, especially walking into a territory new ).
Call Ryan at Sindt in Dubuque, IA. Call Baxter in Marne, IA Call Geoff at MCC in Villa Park, IL
Look around and shop the opportunities. You know what you want, now just find it and deal for it. DOnt accept less.

I would want to tell a rep about it if for no other reason as a heads up for their practice of jacking up the price with BS charges and bad customer relations for Triumph.

Triumph should know (be informed) but I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't actually do anything about the price jacking. As long as the dealership can move units, regardless of price, and doesn't break the law, I doubt they'll care much.

Stick to your guns, Peter. Although your friend seems to have been treated fairly, they are not being reasonable with you. Dumb bunnies haven't figured out that customer loyalty will pay ten times more than a first time rippoff. I've been down this road before myself. Good luck to ya! You are only as good as your last sale. Don't buy from them at all. Take a road trip and get one elsewhere. Don't have them fix it either. Put it in a truck and road trip it to the dealer you buy it from. They don't generally break and the services can be done by you also. Warranty work, well, take the ride. It will be worth it just to boycott those idiots.
There will be a new dealer there very soon. They can't stay in business with Triumph for long with that attitude.

I posted this under the "Sales lady screwed it up" thread, thought it might also apply here.
WHAT'S THEIR EMAIL?
Perhaps we should all start telling these "bad" dealers what we think of them and also explain to them what motorcycling is all about. Any dealer that still has 07s on the floor should be bending over backwards to make the sale.
I bought my America at Machines In Motion, Cumming Ga. and was extremely pleased with the service, the way I was treated, etc. Tell that dealer to put their bike where the sun don't shine and spend your money elsewhere. You will be a lot happier in the end!

I GOT THE DEAL I WANTED. I will be picking up the bike on Friday. I also got the 1200.00 in free stuff! posted this earlier but I am selling the set of floor boards that I picked out. If anyone wants them at a discounted rate let me know. Thanks for all your input over the last 48 hrs. I went in there with a very positive attitude and laid it all out for them. The woman did the same and we all walked away happy! AND I HAVE THE BIKE I WANTED! Thanks again. Peter

Just curious, did you straighten things out in Wichita or go to Eldorado Springs or Engles Motors in KC.
