Yeah, Keith did have a freak occurrence...first time I've heard of it on these boards in 4 years. But it still might be wise to go with a shorter filter, because the cost isn't much different. IMO it isn't a good idea having the filter lower than the oil pan if you can help it.
We were comparing filters at the Southwest Fest between pulls of beer in Dwight's garage at the end of the day. The PureOne I've been using sticks out down below the oil pan. Some of the others didn't, like Dwight's stock Triumph one. Out of curiosity I just went out to the garage and measured the filter and it's 3 inches long. It's below the oil pan by about half an inch.
