Ian it is basicly a safety test which we have every year, you have your first after the bike is three years old from date of manufacture. They test the brakes, and also calibrate the weight ratio for each brake as well. and also the electrical side of the bike. Make sure really that everything that should work works. They also test the emissions from the exhaust and the noise level..
Everything is done by computer these days so you cannot fiddle like we used to do in the old days or buy one. the screen on the special computer is hooked up to the Driver and vehicle licensing Centre and a certificate is printed for you to keep.
The police know before they even stop you if you hold a full licence for the bike you are riding, if it is taxed (currently £65.00 a year to keep your bike on the road, differs for different engine capacity) and insured.
Also had mine pass with the off roads as well, at a private MOT station..

thanx, do you have yearly inspection too? costs me $18 a year US $s for my tag and then I am supposed to get the bike inspected every year. Nothing like you describe but they check break wear, tire wear, lights and such. No emissions where I live yet. We don't have anything like you describe.

What you describe is basically what we have to get done for our MOT.
Mind you, some back street garages (like the one I had my bandit tested at), just look at it and say" Yup... two wheels!!"

The MOT in the UK cost £27.15 ($54.30) each year and we have to go through it all again

We also are able to check if a vehicle is licensed just by typing it in to the DVLA database, this is handy DVLA database if it says timed out go to home and then click on vehicle enquiry and follow prompts.. Now if you type my registration of my bike in PG04 ZZJ and the make of course you will get all the details of when it is registered and if it has been taxed for the year.

My 03 passed it's first MOT no probs with the rear most baffles removed. That was at my local dealer in Bristol. I took her this year to a BMW dealer up near the olds in June (she now lives near Nottingham) as the Triumph Dealer up there doesn't do MOT's and I got an advisory that the exhausts were a little loud. But still passed. The annoying thing is that the exhausts were exactly the same.... The 'volume' test is purely subjective. If the tester thinks they're loud, then they've either slap an advsory on or fail it. Take it for the test. If it fails on loud pipes then go home and put the stock ones - if you have some. If you don't I'm sure someone could lend you some. I have a Speedie (tapered) pair that I could post to you if necessary.
Gina
03 America - Pretty stock - except the TBS wheel...
06 America - missing, presumed in bits. With it's TBS wheel...
09 America - It's very blue....

actually, pretty similiar here, 2 years from new you get a free pass, 3rd year a state inspection which is free but a pain, or pay someone at a licensed garage to slap a sticker on it. The inspection is subjective, depending on the individual doing the test to agreat degree. but at least no emmissions teating for bikes as of yet, but they'll get you on the noise and "altered from stock" snag, if you catch an inspector who spent the nite on the couch
I never wanted to lead, and I never wanted to follow.
I just wanted to ride.

As long as they can see some sort of baffle, you're good here. I run Sceptres, no probs.
Always remember to be yourself. Unless you suck. Then pretend to be someone else.
