Mark, you're reaction sounds just like my old man. You probably do not want to here this but I hate that old man to this day.
I left home at 15 and never looked back. I think I turned out ok. I have two grown sons, one has never been in any trouble the other only a few minor issues. Both are married to great girls. Hard workers and very caring individuals.
I guess things have a way of turning out they way they are meant to turn out. Show him so love, give him some space but do not burn down the bridge. Once the bridge is gone there is no going back. Good luck
