Another related question to my deer encounter and my 02. the adjuster was already here Sat. Took some pictures. Didn't say much. I'm leery of this profession cause I've heard some stories of adjusters being unfair. Question, Some parts have just a little damage(tail pipe has a small dent the size of a quarter) Is the adjuster obligated to replace my broken /bent parts with new ones? I suppose even the tank could be puttied and made to look good, but I wouldn't want to. How much power do I actually have in this situation? I want my just freshly painted scoot to look as good as it was before the deer!

Who is your insurance company? Geico really treated me well when I went down missing a deer a year ago. The bike looked as good as new when it was done ~~ and only a slight bump in rates at renewal.

Depends on the bike and company standards. Most have a standard that current model year and less than 15,000 get full replacement. But even at that if the tank if fixable he will write to fix it. If it is winged and striped from the factory he will probably buy a new one. The paint work to match stripes and two tone will be cost prohibitive. A single color tank, he will possibly fix.

If he can buy one pipe rather than a set he will buy just one pipe. The best thing is to wait and see what he does. You can always argue later. No sense getting upset before he writes it up.

A great deal depends on the adjuster. The last adjuster we had here for damage made at a fair to Wendys truck was very cool. He didn't say much but when we mentioned bikes it turns out he is a brother. He has a Rocket 3. I showed him our bikes and we talked for a couple hrs about bikes. He estimated a larger check than the body shop did and threw in some damage that wasn't caused by the tent blowing over onto the truck.

My best friend (demo man on here) was also an adjuster. I have kind of an inside look from him too. If he is any indication they tend to be as fair as possible in most cases. They do have rules they have to go by such as total loss value and can't give you a larger check than that. I would say if the 1 pipe is damaged then he will replace it but not both if the other one is fine. as far as the rest , what saxtron said.

Insurance adjuster? You mean like the idiot who decided a dollar each was a fair price to replace the turbine air vents when the tornado damaged my roof early this year? Seems many of those blighters think it is just fine to use a pricelist published in 1920.

When I had a run in with a deer in 2002, the adjuster replaced everything with new- the bike had $6200 worth of damage and replaced everything with new parts. Bike was fine, but I wish I still had an ACL in my left knee.

Your other thread said the tank is badly damaged.
I wouldn't worry about that part, as to do a correct repair involves more than just Bondo-ing in the dents and painting.

Bondo should only be used to fill the hammer marks and scratches left after a proper metal repair.

Metal repair work on a badly damaged tank will be much more expensive than replacement.
