Rumours are just that... Triumph is coming out with several new models next year but you can rest assured they aren't going to let us know until they are ready. I work in a Triumph dealer and I can tell you that Triumph goes to great lengths to keep developing projects under wraps. Till then they just let fertile imaginations run wild... Everything you hear is someone talking out their butt.. cause they don't know either. If they know, they work for Triumph... if they work for Triumph and let you know.. they will soon be unemployed. My opinion? The air cooled twins will stay as they are and if they have a larger cc liquid cooled twin, it's not going to look anything like our bikes. .. It might even be called a Speedmaster .. but not what you're used to seeing.

Chy is right. I think it was last year or the year before where a new executive was being interviewed (I can't even remember the guys name) and he mentioned that Triumph has plans to bring out a new model every year for the next ten. Did he say what they were? No.
Triumph isn't like the auto industry where they have concept cars travelling the shows to see if interest is there to build. You will know when everyone else knows.

All that being said I am sure they are aware of the gap in displacement and desire here for a mid size bike (1200 to 1600 about) I could see a senario (I know my spelling sucks, always has) where they lose the 865 SM and that becomes the mid size bike. I think eventually they will do it,when is a whole other story. I would say quite a bit depends on what other markets want since the scuttlebutt is Triumph is scaleing back expots to the US market due to the lower value of the greenback,

Rob, this one line of yours is precisely the reason Triumph(and most other M/C companies) prefer to keep their future models a secret from the public. They feel, just as your thoughts indicate, that they lose sales due to people waiting to see "what's coming out next year".
In the summer of 2006, I was up at the MotoGP races at Laguna Seca assisting Matt Capri of SoBay Triumph showing his bored and stroked 1147cc custom-built Bonnie to the public at the Triumph truck exhibit in the enfield area. This one guy walked up and asked me about the 2006 Tiger, but said he had heard a whole new Tiger was to hit the market in 2007. I replied that I had also read that particular rumor in Cycle World magazine recently.
Unfortunately, the Vice-President of Triumph Marketing was walking behind me when I said what I said, and she proceeded to walk right behind the guy I was talking to and she gave me a look filled with daggers!!! After I finished talking with the guy, she walked up and told me in no uncertain terms, "We DON'T say stuff like that around here, Dwight! It kills the sales of our present models!"

First, she should have just shut her mouth since she shouldn't have talked to you, a customer like that.
Second, it is not your responsibility to sell anything for them. You are there and you can conjecture as well as any other customer with another fellow customer.
Bottom line? She should have shut her mouth. Her job is to get feedback and promote product not correct you. But a VP of marketing should know all of that.

Well John, I was there in sort of an "official/un-official" capacity, so I didn't want to argue with her and maybe be the cause of Matt receiving a ration of you-know-what from her, but I know what you're saying and kind of agree with ya. I only brought this up to show the "corporate mentality" that's prevalent out there. (ya know, maybe Ward Cleaver is kind'a right afterall in that "Are There Any Honest Dealers Out There" thread?. Maybe marketing and sales ARE all geared to keeping Joe and Jane Public uninformed, huh?!)

Nah! They've already got some other bozo set up now to take Gonzales' Attorney General spot, John!!!
OH! You mean the part-time salesman spot at SoBay Triumph, huh?!(sorry)
Well, Matt never really has had an official(or un-official, for that matter) opening at that little shop there, and unfortunately I've never really pushed the issue either.
But I AM starting to think the idea of retirement IN PRACTICE has been greatly exaggerated TOO, so who knows?! The next time you're down this way and you walk in the local Walmart(BTW, I hear the correct pronounciation of that place is actually "Waw-mart") you just might find Yours Truly standing near the entrance sporting a brightly colored golden vest and greeting people with a hardy.."Howdy! Welcome to Wal...err...WAWMART, good people!"
