Another tip that I got from someone (who?) else on the site concerning the backlash tool. Here's a great substitute:
Use a flat head M4 bolt with a nut on each cam – the flat head will center the bolt in the larger hole (6mm) and the screw will fit through the 4 mm hole. Tightening the nut will hold the 2 gears together.
