I am probably going to purchase an '07 America or Speedmaster, but I am torn between the 2. Any comments to steer me in a direction?

I got the America so my bride could go with me. No regrets. Would have gone Speedy instead if it was a solo ride but I'm 100% satisfied with my America. I know, how does this help? Rode tham both and no difference at all EXCEPT the balck ones are faster!

Well Ralph, that depends on if you like bright shiny "reaffirming" stuff..OR if your soul is as black as a dark lonely coal mine!!!

Your PICK, Dude!!!

(they're pretty much the same bike, BTW, but the Speedies have twin-rotor front brakes and may stop a little tiny bit better if that makes any difference to ya)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Buy the Speedmaster. It has better brakes and a better high-speed (for a cruiser anyway) riding position. Seats can be changed, but adding a second front brake to an America involves a whole new front end.

Ya see Ralph, Friar John here jumped the gun one year too early back in '02 and ended up with a bike, though EXTREMELY attractive with all that nice lookin' chrome and all, doesn't quite match his usual "sunny disposition"!!!

And so, whatever you do...BEWARE...and BE TRUE to yourself, Dude!!!

(now do ya see what can happen when ya make the wrong choice here???!!!)

Don't worry John, everyone round these parts knows that your bike is not a reflection of your black lonely coal mine of a soul

Truth of the matter is that the Speedmaster is the leaner meaner brother of the America.

But actually, the best advice I can give is to sit on both and get the one that fits you the best. Because of the bars, the ergonomics of both bikes are different.

I have been going over and over about this bike decision.
I have been tossing around the notion of the Star Roadliner (big, but very nice ride), the Victory Hammer (cool but another Harley-like bike), the MotoGuzzi Griso (also cool but who knows about them Italian bikes...I'm Italian and confused), but I seem to keep coming back to Triumphs. In 1972, I rode my first bike. It was a Kawi, but there was a dealer near me (Randy's Cycles in Boylston, Ma.) and he sold Triumphs, BSA's, Nortons, etc. and he let me ride the Bonneville. I thought it was so cool. Now, as a 46 year old, I think about my youth and the thought of riding a Triumph just has a weird appeal to me. I was thinking about a T100 and doing the "68" thing to it, but I just bought my wife a Vulcan 500 and she wants to cruise long distances, so I think a better choice would be either the Speedmaster or the America. I like the feel of both, but lean to the Speedy's drag type bars.
I have had all manner of bikes including a big, clumsy, FLHS Harley and I just want something a bit different than the mindless culturally deprived masses.
Thanks for all your input. I think now I lean a bit more to the Speedy for the brakes and the additional power, but I must say, I like the chrome on the America. It reminds me more of the T100 motors.

So, here's what you do, you get the Speedmaster and get chrome side covers. I think the current deal is that you get $1200 of accessories.

Well, come to think of it Ian, I DO remember at the time of his egress from the car that I heard a distinct sound that reminded me of opening that bottle of extra dry Champagne last New Year's Eve, but at the time I just attributed it to a possible gastro-intestinal problem on his part!!!

(it did seem to assist his egress however)

Is THAT the part of the body that houses the soul? I must have more soul than anyone on this site!

Naw, that little tiny door wasn't good for entrance or egress, but it did wonders as a suction release valve. I'm just glad the thing didn't have a roof. There's no way I could Dukes of Hazard it through the window on something that small...

^^what HE said^^

the speedmaster has a second brake but to be honest, the america's single brake reportedly is plenty.

the only diffrences (real world diffrences) is the look.

Get the one you like and if need be, buy a corbin set up or a stock two piece set up.

I went with the speedmaster and a corbin....I also ride two up.

Get the one that makes you smile more when you see it and sit on it. They are both great, but, my America sure gets a lot of attention from young ladies and old farts...... thinking of getting a rat bike to avoid the attention......

Would have to agree with AngusPT here. The two bike's specks are identical any way. Also any thing like handle bar, seat issues, and other ascetics can be addressed later. So go with the grin factor and let that be your ride.
