I know there has been a number of threads related to putting a 21" front wheel on our bikes. I have a couple of questions that I know you will be able to help me. 1) What is the best way of setting up the wheel? Is it best to get a 21" rim that I can put my current hub/brakes etc. into or is it best to get a new wheel set up? 2) If I put a 21" wheel on the bike what else do I have to do to the bike? ie. Do I have to get the front raked or anything to level the bike up? Any help will be appreciated. With Xmas coming up I'm trying to work out how big a present I can give myself!!!! Or at least how far the buget that I have been given by she who must be obeyed will stretch. Cheers

1st ... you must lace a 21" rim on the hub unless you are not interested in front brakes........I have seen many just run the 21" stock on the bike and they have no problem that I have heard...I got all "gunched-up" and did the math and came up with a 3.3 degree rake figure ( over stock) for the rake & trail....I did that through the triple tree...My assesment is the bike is now , absolutly perfect , on the highway and I have given up just a little in the twisties but when I get twisty feaver it is time for the Sprint-S.. There are several "techno-phobes" that can go into greater detail but as for this little Ag Major...it was a 3.3 degree rake through the triple trees and a laced 21" rim....It was worth it to me ...yes, I have before and after pics in my picture gallery here so feal free to gander !

1. Lace a rim to your hub, it will save you a fortune and lots of time matching up the bearings, spacers and brake system.
2. Because 21 inch rims usually use much smaller tires, the difference in total diameter will be less than you might think. The biggest thing is going to be finding a fender that looks right and is easy to adapt to your forks. You could do without a fender but trust me, that gets really nasty if you get caught out in the rain.

Yes...the expert speaks (up there) As for fenders etc...looks cool with out but they ARE as handy as a pocket on a shirt...I used a SpeedMaster fender on mine..fits great...am using the Avon Venom 120/70-21 mc 62H on my front now...a wee bit fatter, looks good under that SpeedMaster fender........sic'em boy !

Don't think I've seen a pic of a BA/SM w/21" & fender. That'd be interesting to see. Particularly the SM fender, since a number of us already have 'em on BAs. They sure look nice (IMO) on the HDs w/slender fender.

SM fender would have to be narrowed to look right in my opinion.

I believe they're both Harley fenders. It was built by a joint called Euroshop and bought by Tex. I think it was one of the first to have larger wheels and the first (I think) to have non-Triumph fenders. There are more pictures in Tex's photopost gallery.

Actually, with that "fatter" avon on mine....the SM fender just fits....looks like it should be there.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I might do it as a three stage project. 1. Wheel 2. Fender 3. Rake If I don't need to rake except for aesthetics I'll leave it till last. As for the fender we're in a drought here at the moment so I might risk being without it for a while (Knowing my luck not having a front fender will break the drought!!!!!!! ) Anyway thanks again. If you're ever around down here give us a yell we can ride and drink beer!!!!!

I have been thinking about upgrading to a 21" for a while now but have been hesitant because the only person I asked (at a harley shop) told me that I would need a custom rim made to accomodate the # of spokes. I honestly have never counted and nor do I care If there is a ready made rim that I can just lace up. Where have you all purchased yours? Oh and about the front fender- I took mine off and love it. As for the rain... I just check weather.com before I ride because my baby wont see a drop of rain If I can help it!

The local Harley shop (i.e. private bike shop) sent my hub off to be re-strung.....did a great job..he used someone in California....I think the machine shop that made the 3.3degree triple tree was in Iowa.?.not sure but you could call Sonny, he did the work....he has River City Cycle in Fort Smith, Arkansas.....mine is the only bonnie-A they have worked on.....The whole package is what I would call perfect now.....the ride is truly excellant and it has better road manners now than my Sprint..and I love my Sprint

Buchanan will build you a 21" front wheel. http://www.buchananspokes.com/Send them your hub. you specifiy chrome, powdercoat, ect. It will take about 4 weeks. Leave the rake alone. Its more of a hassle than its worth. Fender? Pure preference. I left mine off. In fact I ground off the mounting tabs on the lower forks before I chromed them. You will need to cut the fork spacers down about an inch and/or purchase a Progressive front spring kit. Handling. It will take some getting used to. Front will feel heavy. You are looking at $500-$700 for the whole conversion. If you do it right.

How hard is it to cut down the fork spacers? Is it essential to cut them down when I put the wheel on or is it something that can be done later?

It is a Thunderbird Sport hub. They are pretty hard to find used, but you can still get the entire wheel assembly new from Triumph.

oooh, that's tempting. I need to sell a couple more websites first. What's your price for the brake upgrade kit with the lower right fork leg, caliper and such?

Hello It's my bike. The front hub is from TBS, rim and spokes are from central wheel http://www.central-wheel.co.uk/.I made front fender my self from 1.25mm steel. I'm now making front fender from 1.5mm aluminium. Actually I'm completely rebuilding the bike :-) I have started company called Polameri Metal Works and I will make parts for new Triumph. I try to make my product line ready asap but it will take little more time. If someone wants front fender now I can make one from steel or aluminium. Here is my e-mail: jani.polameri@polameri.comBest regards Jani
