I'm nearly settled on picking up an '07 America tomorrow, but my only concern is being able to carry enough gear with me. The panniers are good, but a top box would be better, especially to put the helmut in. Can anyone offer some storage suggestions? Thanks!

I think I remember one of the guys on here using the panniers and top box from a tiger and it looks really nice..
Maybe someone will post a pic for you..

I have a givi e460 mounted to my luggage rack. I've only used it on one trip but I like it very much. Before that I used a soft tailbag strapped to the pillion seat a bit like the nelson rigg but not as spiffy. here's the givi and here's the tail bag I like the givi because it's waterproof and easy on/off. It was like $150 at twisted throttle.

That does look good. Is that a Triumph luggage rack? If so, which model is it?
Thanks! Martin

I think there's only one rear luggage rack model from triumph. It comes with or without a sissy bar. You see them on ebay.

I think Friarjohn had a top box on his too that was fairly large. Might ask him what he did.

I haven't pulled the trigger. Last year when Phil's connection at triumph (or his dealer) was giving away stuff (tanks and such) I was supposed to get a green Sprint/Trophy top box. But somehow it got lost. Snekeptp has one mounted on his bike (which is for sale in the classifieds right now).
Still I have spacers made to mount the Triumph luggage rack without the sissybar, I just have to figure out which aftermarket top case I want to get (Emgo, Givi, etc.). Mounting it shouldn't be a big hassle.

i agonized over this a long time, even made cardboard mockups! while i was dithering givi seemed to reduce their prices to the point where i was willing to give it a go. i'm quite pleased.
now... i never !ooked at emgo... i'd better rethink...

It's not quite the same but I got a cruiser bag, size med, and it's the bomb for touring. That and a small bag on my rack and I had plenty of storage for a long weekend.

My buddy has an Emgo trunk in stock at his shop but it's a bit smallish. It might hold my helmet. Seems to be decently strong construction for plastic. Looks like this one: http://www.carlscycle.com/eshopprod_cat_3196-19188-28315_product_403798.EMGO174_TRAVEL_TRUNK.htmI guess JC Whitney has other styles.

Almost forgot. You can fit a helmet in the cruiser bag. Tha large size also fits our bikes but i did not need that much room.

A few random observations: - Some of these boxes - like the ones from the triumph sprint that snekepet has mounted seem to be very heavy duty fiberglass. Others are lighter construction.
- Givi makes two classes of luggage - monolock are less expensive and lighter duty than monokey but still quite sturdy.
- My Givi E450 (monolock) came with a plate that bolts to the luggage rack. The box snaps onto the plate and locks with the same key that opens the box.
- Mine doesn't hold as much as you might think - Rounded corners rob some space and the way it opens on the centerline means you don't fill the whole thing - kind of like your gas tank. So far it's been fine though.
- They do make your bike look fat but maybe that's ok. I find a bike with the trunk on it has much more visual mass from the rear - kind of like a light bar in front.
- I think you get a little buffeting and turbulence from them - especially when empty.
This may sound a bit negative and I don't mean it to - it's great! The biggest advantage over the soft tail bag I was using before is that it's securely waterpoof and it pops off and on very easily - way better than messing around with bungee cords in the dark.

I have the Triumph high passenger backrest with luggage rack. I purchased one of those expandable bags that rests on the luggage rack and has a couple of 3" wide velcro straps that go around the sissy bar to hold it down. It has worked out very good. In there I have a half helmet, a medium weight jacket, rain gear, and gloves. You just fold the top over and over making it shrink in size or expand. It's not perfect but it cost me about 90 bucks and it works.

Don't feel special. People don't usually respond to my posts (except by default/quick reply) unless I insult them (perceived or real).

I have seen those and they can be quite handsome when they're on the pillion in front of the sissy bar.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a bag that will work with just the solo luggage rack?

Maybe this Chicane Bag will work for you. Tail Bag
