In another thread I posted a copy of the following email that I received from our closest Triumph dealer in Charlotte, North Carolina Triumph of Charlotte after I inquired why their "out the door price" for a Triumph America is $9400.

"The two-tone bikes sell for $8,199. Freight from England is $400. There is a $295 set-up charge that covers the uncrating, final assembly of the bike, draining the shipping oil and putting the run in fluids in (motor oil, brake fluid, etc.). Sales tax for a vehicle in North Carolina is 3%. We do all the title/tag and DMV work here in house so you don’t have to go to DMV. $229 covers the documentation and Title/Tags are $68."

And Ward, as an add-on to my previous email regarding the Charlotte dealership and the Batesburg one, it is a waste of time to haggle with the Charlotte dealer even on the extra charges. I speak from my own experience and also a friend of mine. My buddy was paying cash, and they would not budge a penny on the add-ons. Would not throw in any extra goodies either (well, I think they mentioned a t-shirt). I guess they can sell enough bikes at MSRP plus markup to not to have to bother with selling to everybody who comes in.

Its makes it real easy to ride to Batesburg in two ways. I saved lots of money, and also I really like the guys down there. Will not buy anything from the Charlotte dealers. It wasn't so much the markup, the guys in Batesburg are just plain friendlier.
