It's been about 3 months since I lowered the bike and so far I have had no problem with the stock stand. I do need to be a little more careful about where and how I park, but I don't consider this to be a problem.
Parallel parking on a street that has a slight down slope towards the curb is one circumstance where a shorter stand would come in handy.
