I'd stay away from the KTM. Too many changes are on the way in the next couple of years. Company is still posturing themselves in the streetbike industry.
I'd second Bedouin's suggestion. If you ever have a chance to ride the Mille, you'll wear a smile. I would definitely purchase a used model, as the Piaggo group is starting to rely on their Far East (Taiwan, China, India) plants to mass produce Italian based designs on all thier new models.
Let's hope they leave Guzzi alone, but probably not.
I've ridden the 1098 Duc and thought the Mille was a much better bike. However, unless you plan to head to the track once in awhile and like smooth power,, the MV Augusta just blows them all away. I literally was shaking from fear/excitement/joy after riding this artwork. What a kick ****** bike, and you can relish in the fact that it will smoke anyone, as long as you don't mind the ragged edge.

Personally stay on a SM or BA and live longer. Sportbikes are for the track and teenagers with no sense of fear.
