I'm guessing you are pretty much at zero altitude, like I am here in MD. Dale sent me 132.5 mains and 45 pilots. The bike runs like a champ. Check out the recent Dyno thread, RobBA05 has our setup and did very well with the Specialty Spares and similar jetting. He was a little rich with 135 mains (and 45 pilots), so I figure my setup is just about spot-on. Here's the thread: http://www.bonnevilleamerica.com/forums/showthreaded.php?Cat=0&Number=282441

Thanks Al, that's just what I needed. Know I have read that post before, but I've read so many now that my head is starting to spin...

Dahla, Just to confuse the issue I'm running SS Long Cannons with a K&N, no extra holes in the airbox and a home made bellmouth . I'm set up with 42 pilots and 125 mains but I'm using Thruxton needles with two shims and I'm about 1000 ft above sea level(at least when I leave my house). If you're going to drill your box you should be close to perfect with the jets you have.

you're an outsider oldroadie! From what I could gather from all the posts I've read (maaaany, like, 113 pages in the performace-section..) from people using the SS pipes. When it comes to modded airboxes (drilled bottom and drilled UNI) I think the setup most common was something like this: 130-135 mains TBS needles (some use stock with shims) 45 pilots (I've seen some with 42's but they had bigger mains, like 145-150) So that's where I'm gonna start!

Agreed! With a stock air box my pilots are fine and the bellmouth doesn't come into play until I get on the mains where the more aggressive taper of the Thrux needles makes the 125s behave like 132s. You're doing the right thing going with proven results.

Thanks to this forum it's possible to find that little red line! it's alot of different setups, but the basics are there, just a little tweaking from bike to bike. Everytime a setup has failed for some reason, it seems to be because of vacuum-leaks etc etc, and not the jetting itself. I feel like I have finally realised something and actually learned something when it comes to tuning these bikes...

just an update guys. I've put on my pipes, jetted to 130/45's and put in TBS needles. I've also drilled the airbox/UNI. I removed the AI and put on the solo-seat I bought from roadworthy, and I gotta say, HOLY ******!! I've only taken her out for a short spin, still too cold up here on top of the world, but she feels like a whole new ride, me like!

I have the same exact setup. Seems to be right-on.

Do the SS long cannons come with a rear mounting bracket? I did not get one. From some of the photos I've seen chrome brackets and brackets that look like the original stock that are supporting the SS pipes.
I'm new to this board, and some sites require a first time post intro. I don't if this one does,so...

Dale's really good about answering his mail, ask him. dale419@centurytel.net

Sounds like a good wife!
The pipes definitely don't come with the mounting brackets, just reuse the old ones. They will not come off easily, the bolt inside the factory muffler is typically stripped. Try using an impact wrench with some PB Blaster soaked in. If that fails and the nut just spins (one of mine back in '04 didn't come off), I had a buddy put a spot weld on the bolt just enough to allow me to break the fastener loose. You will love the sound of the SS pipes, it will be worth the effort (mine still look brand new as well).

mine did (07 SM). they where fastened with two socket head screws on each side, and I head heard all of these dreaded just-spins-stories, but mine came off without a hitch, they weren't even torqued that tight.
and I agree with Al, you will love the SS. the sound in the pipes are soooooo sweet! remove the baffle and they are obnoxiuos loud too, me like! wouldn't want any other pipes on my bike...
