With .2" of rain since July 1st in San Diego County the "greenery" argument is also moot notwithstanding that even green grass burns very well when fanned by strong winds.

Agree, tile roofing is a better hedge against fire than cedar shakes but masonry structures do not withstand earthquakes as well as timber frame so then it's an argument as to where one chooses to live and I'm not interested in assigning blame based on residence. The fires propelled by mother nature have been devastating for our fellow citizens in California and they have my sympathies.
