Yesterday Aunt Cathy, my Son Brad, Myself and our dog Bilbo, all packed into the car, and headed south to CT for the day! We stopped at Sam's Club along the way to grab two cartons of Camel wides for a certain 'yute' here, and continued on our 3 hr trek to Brooksvale Park fall festival in Hamden CT. Our goal was to see a particular long haired, brunette with auburn highlights, offer up some soulful renditions of certain lyrical arrangements, while instrumentally accompanying herself on a stringed pride and joy of some unknown Luthier....(lil'm was gonna sing and play her guitar)

The day was just stunning, sunny, hot (70's) with clear blue skies and just a hint of that fall smell in the air! you couldn't have asked for a better day, weather wise, and when we arrived we got front row parking! lil'm met us at the parking lot in a white Triumph tank top with a button down collar, and jeans, I wore my GA rally shirt (in-case any others from here might arrive I thought it would be easily spotted) we unpacked bag and baggage and hugs for everyone (except my "too cool for hugs" 13 year old who just kinda said 'hey' while trying to look unconcerned if not bored with the whole thing) Once that was done it was off from the parking lot 50 yards or so to the portable stage (a very cool little folding open truck trailer thing that formed a half shell and everything) in front of this little piece of engineering were two small sets of bleachers...whew! good thing lil'm met us in the parking lot...(otherwise my concerns over being able to locate her at this place might have come true ) Oh well so maybe she didn't have to meet us...but we were glad she did!...We are given introductions to the rest of her band mates and we listen to a solo performance of another singer A.J & friends (odd name for a solo artist I know)...then it's lil' m's turn...

She gets on stage (looking very buff I might add) and cranks out an awesome set about 1/2 hour long, and the place erupts! I mean it’s like Woodstock for CT yuppies…Soccer moms are ripping off their tops and rolling in the mud…I had two different tree huggers come up to me and tell me to “lick Mickey” as the handed me a stamp with a picture of Mickey Mouse on it…then they wandered off talking to unseen friends about unseen rainbows…some other guy busts out his copy of ‘Big Bamboo” and says “I been saving this for the right time” then he opens the album to reveal that he still has the original ‘paper’ dumps half a pound of fine Sensamillion Gold on it, and rolls up a bat sized ‘doobee’ and a giant circle forms in front of the stage, as we pass the bat…

NO wait…!!

That didn’t happen at all…

Well lil’m DID crank out an awesome freekin set!

ButI totally made the 'soccer mom' stuff up…

and the tree huggers…

and you should have known the ‘paper’ thing wasn’t true…

NO one has that paper anymore.

Then its time for the local favorites, ‘Blue Trail’ to take the stage, a 5 or 6 piece band that includes a mandolin player and a fiddle player but no percussion, they play a “nice set” with several pieces put in their set list just for the kids and for their “sing along” value…not exactly Cinnamon girl, or Ohio…but not altogether bad either…just well…they play and harmonize very well together so there you go.

Matt from CT shows up on his new Tiger, and hangs for some time...then splits to ride some more, but not before promising to return to see 'Sleeping Giant' (lil m's band) hit the stage...Mark arrives on the Thruxton, and we swap cigs for $$ in the parking lot…good to see folks again…

After ‘Blue Trail’ leaves the stage it’s time for lil’m and her boys….perhaps that should be the name of the group…not Sleeping Giant…but anyway ‘Sleeping Giant’ gets on stage and they have a Sax player, bass, Electric guitar drums…all to back up lil’m and her acoustic guitar and her golden throat…they rocked out for about 20 min or so before the sundial told me I had to depart for the north…unfortunately mid set…but I did get to take some awesome pics of the band and lil’m and I would have posted them with this but they are all on lil’m’s camera ….to those who could have gone but didn’t you missed out on a great day …to those who couldn’t go …well you missed out also…great music and a neat little sunburn on the back of my neck…who’d of thunk all this for free!! Great time glad I could go…

but the soccer moms thing would have made it bet….never mind!

Rob, you should start your first novel if you haven't already, awesome writing skills paint the picture, I swear I could hear the music.

well, after hearing lil Sis crank out some stuff with Chy at my last Georgia Rally on Chy's back porch, I had no doubt it would be AWESOME!! And yeah, PERFECT weather for it, especially considering the night before I thought Niagara Falls was coming down outside my window! Just sucks that I couldn't make it, but WAY TO GO LIL SIS!!!

Great write up Rob! Thanks!

Now I'm even more bummed out that I couldn't make it 'cause
I spent the last 3 days sick in bed w/a wicked cold.

Oh well, at least I'm feeling better today, and your story
made me feel like I was there.

Good job li'l m!

Hey Shari - cool pix - looks like you are right at home on that stage! Hope you have many gigs to follow.....

Rob - Cool write up! That stage was built by a little company called Wenger in Southern Minnesota. Our company builds the rubber isolator mounts for that stage, so in a strange way, I WAS there to support Mert!
