That was a total loss system in those days if I remember correctly for HD, the gas tank was split and half held the oil and the other half held gas. At one point the oil pressure was even achieved by a hand pump on the tank no engine driven pump at all.
As for our bikes we have 2 and 15,000 on mine and 7,000 on Wendys and neither one uses a drop.
