He passed on Monday at 1:20 am after enduring a deviated aorta since 10 pm Friday night. He was 80 years old. He had a living will that forbade any life support so Sunday all medications were stopped. The medications were artificially keeping his blood pressure up. Without them his blood pressure dropped to nothing and he expired. His condition was deemed inoperable due to his advanced Parkinson's and dementia. The deviated aorta paralyzed him from the waist down, shut down his kidneys and gave him stroke-like symptoms. He was really struggling and trying to pull all his IV's and breathing tube out for most of Sunday. Only when the morphine drip was advanced to "elephant' did he finally rest. It took ten more hours for him to expire. The experience was unlike any ever conveyed to me or my family. It was an absolutely harrowing experience that I pray no one ever has to endure. On the plus side, my 78 year old Mom is now no longer responsible for taking care of my Dad like an infant. I hope she will pick up from where she was before my Dad's Parkinsons got so bad. If you're the praying type, throw some her way. And my wife's maternal grandmother is just now (as in just today) recovering from surgery to remove her cancerous vulva, so they can all use some prayers too.

thanks.

My prayers are with you brother.
I lost my Dad 6 years ago very suddenly and my Mom 4 months ago. Find your strength with your Mom and your family; the pain will eventually ease. Spend quality time with those that you have; be there for them as they are for you.
I am very sorry for your loss.

Remember; no matter where you go, there you are.

My condolences Jeff. Went through pretty much the same thing with my Pop about 3 years ago. I know it hurts, but you'll soon get past the pain and get to the place where you'll mainly remember him as that strong and invincible younger man that you recall he was back when you were but a pup.

Wish your Mom and Mom-in-law the best for me.

Sorry for your loss Jeff,

Your dad is in a better place. I lost my father suddenly this past August 19th. It sounds like you have a good family to lean on, it makes all the difference, leaning on each other. My family, countless friends, including the ba.com friends here all help.

Jeff,

I am very sorry to hear of the passing of your dad. My father died 6 years ago and I know nothing I say will make what you are going through any easier. That cant be done. I'll say a prayer for you and for him.

Hi Jeff

Went through a similar experience 6 years ago with my father 61 when he passed, I know how you must be feeling and as time goes by it does get a little easier, but you will never forget. My prayers will go to your family at their time of need

Jeff,
Our condolences to you, we went through the same with my father in the latter part of 1999, he had suffered massive heart attacks in 1976, underwent a triple by-pass in 1979 or so, 2 of the three by-passes collapsed with another heart failure, and technically dead for longer than 6 minutes before a final shock revived his heart. This damaged his brain, and alzheimers attacked. He was taken back about 30 years in his mind, and out of control. The sheriff's department was out at least once a week trying to contain him from leaving the house all hours of the night, and striking my mother with his cane. They convinced her that a home was the best place for him, where he lived for about 3 months before passing in the early morning hours of February 2002..He was 71 years old. My mother now sits alone most of the days, but is doing well. Our prayers go out to you and yours...

Our condolences to you. We lost both of my wife's parents and now I'm pretty helpless watching my dad fade as his memory self destructs; it's the being powerless to assist that hurts the most so I know how you must feel.

i am so sorry to hear of this. there is not much a person can say to another at a time like this. take time to take care of yourself and spend time with those that you love, espeacially your mom, she needs you now more than ever, she has been addicted to a drug (your dad) for many many yrs and there will be symtoms of withdrawl, so be good to those you love and yourself!!!!! i know you dont want any advice from anyone right now but, i needed to be reminded of these things when i lost my Dad.
