When I was having trouble with my kick stand switch, letting it sit for a "few minutes" didn't help......it needed to sit for hours!....before discovering the problem in the switch, I took all connections apart for treatment with dielectric grease, but found them all clean, greased, and dry...I don't see how a faulty cap vent would only cause trouble in the rain, but anything's possible....a simple test for this would be trying to run it with the cap loose...
