holy cow, I know we're still getting used to the higher c$ but look at the difference in the rocket price! Quote:

I've pretty much decided that I'll be buying my next bike over the border.
I pay the U.S. price and when I bring it over I pay our GST and PST on the U.S. price. On top of that there is a $209 charge for the paper work and a $79 dollar charge for safety check. Let's see what that would work out to....
U.S. pricing
16,699 x Michigan tax = 17,366.96
+ GST and PST = 19,798.33
+ paperwork and safety check = 20,086.33
Canadian Pricing
19,999 x GST and PST = 22,798.86
Savings of $2712.53

What is the exchange rate Canada to US Dollars? Is it pretty close? Depending on the exchange rate I aggree, $2,700.00 is close to what you would pay for a Used America or Speedmaster. You could practically get another bike for that ammount.

Try US$ 31.238 in this country (thanks to a hefty additional import tax for it being over 2000cc).

But Thanassis, they had to retrofit the Bike with equipment that makes it compatible with the Cradle Of Civilization!!!! For instance, instead of the Euro and US Market Electronic Speedometer and Tachometer, the Greek Model is equipped with a genuine Scribe, who shall write down your engine speed and your road speed on a scroll (lambskin of course)and present it to you, while also regaling you with tales of past rides to Sparta and the like...

1500???!!! Well wojo, at the current rate of exchange, I hear the U.S. model of that new cruiser is slated to be a 1507cc! (but I think Yota's currency converter says it'll be a 1620, and at the present rate of drop of the U.S. dollar's value, by the time that puppy actually does hit the market, he could be right)

Wojo ,if you dont register it in michigan. you dont pay the state tax, theres a good thread on this subject on the rat site i think this might be it http://www.triumphrat.net/rat-canada/284...importing+bikesi was toying with that idea too, strangley enough a day or two after reading the rat site thread, i met a guy at a crappy tire ,who had just bought a 04/05 tiger in Texas somewhere and was getting his safety cert for the bike , said he had no problems at all saved 3 gs and had a hoot on the journey back to Vancouver .let us know how it goes if you do the import thing

Reading that thread makes it even cheaper because I don't have to pay the PST.
16,699 x GST = 18018.94
+ paperwork and safety check = 18306.94
A savings of $4779.92

I guess if you think about it the reason for the pricing discrepancy is that the US$ fell vs the pound while the C$ didn't fall as much. From Triumph's point of view the answer is to raise the US price - shhhh... don't tell them.

If you are not from Mich. You don't have to pay thier sales tax. I know that's the case in Washington.

i believe if its a new item you pay both taxes, gst and pst. but if its used you pay only one tax (not 100% on this). if i remember correctly , the tiger guy , did pay state tax ,however it did have a texas plate (as he registered it there )on it and allowed him to ride it through the border ,it can take a few weeks to sort all this red tape BS out ,but if your saving a couple of Gs i think its well worth it "If you are not from Mich. You don't have to pay thier sales tax. I know that's the case in Washington. Dave " only if you dont register the vehicle for use in that state .this is where it can get a bit complicated, insurance wise . if you trailer(spit)the bike back home then you only need trailer insurance ,but the canadian border guards can(if they so choose) put a hold on the bike for a few days to clear customs. still a great deal for us Canadians right now ,if only i handnt just bought a house

This seems to be a sore spot for all industries in Canada. The parity of CDN to US $ should result in equal retail pricing??? Unfortunately not so easy when inventory was purchased prior when exchange rates may not have been favourable.
Dealerships may only make 1 or 2 purchases a year, also, publications might not be modified fast enough to react to the speed of the market.
OT story. A client purchased a Porsche last year and is trying to sell it now but can't. They lowered retail prices to reflect strong CDN $ and now his used price = new pricing. Lol, sucks to be him!

I've heard that the 2008 (cough) Harleys sold in Canada are considerably cheaper than the 2007 models. Anyone confirm this? If it is true, why isn't Triumph following suit?
It looks like the Auto makers are also not lowering their prices in Canada. Not only that, it appears any Canadian purchasing a car in the states will not get warranty in Canada (except for Toyota). Apparently there is a Canadian based class action law suit addressing this. Not only that, some US citizens are currently in litigation regarding their own class action suit related to cars bought in Canada by Americans a few years back when the Canadian $ was low. They also couldn't get warranty. Looks like the auto makers are in for it again.

Really? Would the Scribe also write my travelogues too? I never seem to be able to complete them.

I can confirm that Harley is dropping their CDN pricing. I was at Calgary Harley on the weekend and I believe it was one of the Dyna's is retailing for $800 less. Don't quote me on the model, but the sales guy was using this as a sales pitch.
