Once again Bill, I have to disagree with you. I have bought and sold on Ebay- it's pretty hard to screw it up! The guy has bought stuff on ebay, he should have a pretty good idea how the system works. You should use this opportunity to educate him....

But in the defense of the seller.... you do live in Canada, right? It does state he ships to the US only.

Roundy: I use a US shipping location.

BonnyUSA: I don't think integrity comes into it - just ineptitude. I've sold lots of stuff on ebay. it's easy for a first-timer to screw it up.

I'm not making any point here other than that this kind of f'up is more common than you'd think.

That doesn't mean he doesn't owe you the items Bill. Should have put a reserve price or started the auction at a price where he was comfortable selling it at.

Unfortunately you are screwed. The only thing you can do is open a dispute via Paypal and hope to get your money back, then leave neutral or negative feedback. This is the bottom line.

I recently went through something similar. I won a Nintendo Wii with a very fair shipping price and paid via Paypal. I was told the item was shipped and provided a tracking number. The tracking number never reflected movement of the item. I soon received an apology stating the item was "never meant for sale". Eventually I received a full refund from the seller via Paypal.

I was lucky to get the full refund as Paypal garunteed much less less than what was paid. The seller could have easily skipped on me.

This individual had a 100% feedback rating with 22 sales.

This is a fundamental problem when dealing with private parties. There is little to no legal recourse in the transaction.

Good luck to you Gina.

Ha! Good one. I'm glad you at least got the apology. Fortunately my clown spoke up before I had paid.

Gina, what did happen with yours?

Good luck with what ever approach you take. My last major ebay purchase goes as such; item won, tracking number received and no movement for 3 weeks, I sent several emails with no reply from the seller and finally the seller ships the package. The package arrives (with no shipping damage) only to be opened and to our dismay we find the kitchen faucet is bent and broken into pieces. Again, several emails and weeks later and finally a promise of a return shipping authorization...and on goes the story. We eventual take the dispute to PayPal arbitration with NO help from PayPal. I eventually left a negative feedback and she returned the favor and left me one as well. I still have the faucet and she still has my $'s. What stunk was her feedback rating wasn't bad however after looking through her feedback history it was apparent that she left a negative for everyone that left her one. I pointed this out to ebay with the hope that they would encourage her to withdraw the feedback she left for me and was unsucessful. I haven't given up on ebay completely - I still buy parts for America but nothing else...

I got the wallet on Saturday, it has the stench of leather and some dog tooth marks from where the parents dog found it... (he has a leather fetish - it's leather, he chews it...) It's ok though, the tooth marks add character! I did buy it to use...not to keep as a collectors item.

I know what you are all saying, if I was to sell something, I'd look like a bad seller having only ever been a buyer. I wouldn't be, but to the people who don't know me....

I have bought stuff since - just £3 here, £5 there, and it's arrived no hassle and no arguing that it's worth more.
I'm not leaving the idiot feedback, til he does for me. If he doesn't I won't. That way there can be no arseyness from my side. Even though I have the right to be.

At the end of the day the moral for sellers is that if you want a minimum amount on something, set a reserve. My story turned out ok ish in the end.... but it may have ended up with me going to the police...

Gina 03 America - Pretty stock - except the TBS wheel... 06 America - missing, presumed in bits. With it's TBS wheel... 09 America - It's very blue....

glad that worked out ok'ish gina. I agree with your moral.

ebay just seems to be full of f'ups lately though. I bought and paid for a pair of footpegs over the weekend then today I found the payment refunded and a note from the seller

dear bill, these pegs were sold in a auction we had about 3 weeks ago, sometimes items get relisted by accident please accept our apologies and a full refund.

I was a bit put out with the seller but they assert that it's a known ebay issue

it's been happening all the time been reading up on it in the forum no real way to stop it seems, not to mention ebay has no solution for it either, we are very sorry and just so you know we are trying our hardest to rectify the matter.

Sorry to hear about your woes. Just a thought maybe you could publish his home address and we could flood him with tons of junk mail. Don't get mad get even.
