I was wondering if anyone else has ever gotten seemingly near insane gas milage from their bikes. After i installed the TOR shorty pipes and removed the ais i'm getting 57 on the highway and 53 in town. I also have not re-jetted my carbs, not sure if that is the cause.

I can only assume that there must be some discrepencies in odometer errors to be such a great difference in mileage. I get about 35 in town and 45 on the highway and the bike runs great. When it was new and stock, I got about 3-4 mpg more than after all the mods. Really hard to believe someone gets almost 20 mpg more than me around town.

I'm suprised that you have not gotten any more you suck! responses. I have been getting any were from 145 to 160 miles before I am on reserve. Are you really getting 185 to 200 before you hit reserve?  If that's the case then...... You do suck!

How many tank fulls have you been through since the pipes were added?
I was hitting reserve consistently at about 142-145 miles, whether on the highway, in town, or some of both. Afte installing the TORs, I was seeing 156-160 to reserve, with 190+ on two or three tanks by the time I stopped to fill up. I know I could have seen 200 miles, if I had wanted to. That was with the stock 120 jets, and running lean.
I haven't filled up but twice since rejetting to 125 mains, but I don't think the mpg went down too much....I think I hit reserve at 147 the other day...who needs a stinkin' fuel guage?

Sounds like you might have found a gasoline source that hasn't added 10% ethynol....mine is pretty consistant at 155 miles to reserve....I hate to admit that I had let the chain and sprocket set get so bad (23,000 miles) that replacing them actually improved my mpg....

YES, I've been getting MPG in the 50+ range since I've had my bike. 55-57 mpg, when stock. Now with Tbike pipes and larger jets, 52 mpg. Get 180 miles between fill ups, stay away from ethynol in fuel.

Here's a question or two. When you fill up, are you on the sidestand or upright? Do you fill her right up to the brim or do you leave some space?

When I put on my SS pipes with baffles removed, I got 200 miles to a tank on the Hwy. BUT...this was before I rejetted and shimmed up the carbs. Of course the bike was running lean and a bit warmer, but it was only 50 degrees outside so I didnt mind. Now that the bike is jetted/shimmed up right, I get 140-150 mpg. BE CAREFUL running those pipes without rejetting, especially if it is hot outside or you are running in stop and go traffic.

Fillup with bike on kickstand, to the bottom of fill hole. Use major brands, Exxon, Cevron, BP or Shell. Checked and found 10% better millage with 93 octang, for a 3% increase in price. Last fill up was at 188 miles, took 3.588 gallions = 52.39 mpg

160 before BUB's and a re-jet to 128 mains, 42 pilots, and one shim. Now 145 to reserve.

I have a similar set-up to you, JCW shorties without a re-jet.
I consistently get 25-32mpg so I can only guess that you are alot more mellow with the throttle than I'm willing to be.
I normally go on reserve between 95-115 miles, that's filling up on the sidestand to the top of the filler neck.

No it is true. Stockers get great mpg. For example Red gets an easy 50mpg. Vera gets 35mpg. Red is stock. Vera has Sceptres...
Red hits reserve at 150miles. Vera hits it with a pingel at 122. Almost ran Vera out of gas. Rolled into the gas station on fumes!
Put in 4.2 gallons.  And I might have put in more too as the pump would NOT pump slow enough to keep from splashing.
odo had 145 miles after hitting reserve at 123 miles.

On the Talladega race trip I travelled 1114 miles and used 23.81 US gallons for an average of 46.78 mpg. That is mostly interstate running 80 mph or so with tent, camping chairs, sleeping bag and everything else (looked like the Beverly Hillbilly truck going down the road) needed for a 3 day trip to the races. The 790 cc '02 BA has Triumph off road pipes with some unknown jetting, stock air filter with snorkel and rubber snouts removed and an 18 tooth sprocket. I would hit reserve around 160-175 miles or so. The most gas at any stop was 3.82 gallons so I guess there were a few fumes left, but I'm unsure how much.

I read on another topic that you can glean some more fuel from the tank to use on reserve by leaning the bike sharply to the left side and sloshing. Does anyone know how much gas remains on the right side when the bike is straight and level? I will try to remember to drain and measure the next time I have the tank off. A little bit of gas would be priceless compaired to pushing the BA to the next gas station.

i admit i was running at 55mph the whole time and i was takeing it really easy. it was one of those beautiful days comeing out of the virginia mountains. i think i may have found a station without etholnol, i filled her on the sidestand and to the top. just my 175lbs and full saddle bags on the bike. sorry that i posted in the wrong place.
